Welder
Salary: £38,000 per annum
Hours: 40 hours per week
Working Pattern: Monday to Friday, 08:30 to 17:30 (30‑minute unpaid lunch)
Contract Type: Full‑time, permanent
Job Purpose
The Welder will be responsible for fabricating, assembling, and repairing metal components and structures using a range of welding techniques. The role supports the engineering team to ensure high‑quality, safe, and compliant welded products.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and specifications to plan welding operations.
- Set up welding equipment, tools, and materials for each job.
- Perform MIG, TIG, and arc welding on a variety of metals including mild steel, stainless steel, and aluminium.
- Fabricate and assemble metal components using cutting, grinding, shaping, and finishing tools.
- Inspect welds and completed assemblies to ensure compliance with quality standards and tolerances.
- Carry out repairs and modifications to existing metal structures, frames, and machinery parts.
- Operate workshop machinery such as saws, grinders, drills, and presses as required.
- Follow health and safety procedures, including PPE use, safe handling of materials, and maintaining a clean working environment.
- Work collaboratively with production and engineering teams to meet project deadlines and resolve technical issues.
- Maintain accurate records of work completed, materials used, and any defects or issues identified.
- The Company may from time to time require you to undertake additional or other duties as necessary to meet the needs of the Company on a short term basis e.g. holiday or sickness cover.
Required Skills and Experience
- Proven experience as a Welder/Fabricator in a workshop or industrial environment.
- Competence in MIG, TIG, and arc welding techniques.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings.
- Strong understanding of metal properties, welding symbols, and fabrication processes.
- Good knowledge of health and safety regulations relating to welding and fabrication.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- High attention to detail and commitment to producing quality work.
Desirable Skills
- Experience with CNC machinery, plasma cutters, or automated welding systems.
- Formal welding qualifications (e.g., NVQ, City & Guilds, or coded welding certificates).
- Experience working in manufacturing, engineering, or industrial maintenance environments.
