Fox & Edwards Events are the UK’s leading commercial partner for steam railways. From a fledgling company seven years ago, we now work with multiple preserved railways around the UK providing quality nostalgic steam train journeys for the general public. Our range includes journeys with fish & chips, cream teas, family character days, festive trains, mainline rail tours and much more.
Do you have an interest in heritage? Passionate about steam trains? Experienced in providing an excellent day out for visitors? We are seeking to recruit Flexible Event Coordinators in North Yorkshire.
Role includes:
- Setting up to welcome visitors, including labelling reserved seating on the train;
- Liaising with local railway staff and volunteers;
- Meeting and greeting our visitors;
- Directing them to their seats on the train;
- Assisting with the delivery of food;
- Answering visitor queries;
- Clearing up and cleaning the train after the journey;
- Encouraging visitors to leave feedback after their journey online.
The desirable candidate should:
- Be polite, courteous and enthusiastic;
- Be independent and confident;
- Be reliable;
It is desirable for the successful candidate to have their own transport. This would ideally suit somebody located in the North Yorkshire area.
For catering journeys, the candidate will generally be the sole representative of the company on site working alongside the host railway’s staff (after training). For family days, mainline railtours, and other events, you may be working as part of a team of other coordinators and management.
An element of the role may involve travelling on board the steam train with the visitors and the successful candidate should be comfortable with motion and travel.
Roles are a zero-hour contract with a roster to cover journey days as required through the year. Most trips operate at weekends and bank holidays.
Days are typically 08:00 - 16:00 for catering, or 08:00 - 1730 for family event days (fitting around the train timetable or activity.) Mainline tours vary by length of day.
Timetables vary but generally there will be between two and three train departures to handle each date for catering days and mainline tours, or five for family days.
Cover requirements are circulated in advance and rostered. Number of dates available to cover varies by season and programme. We are flexible where possible to fit around a candidate's other commitments. The season usually runs from February half term until November. Successful candidates will be part of a pool of Flexible Event Coordinators available in the area to the company. You can expect 10 - 20 dates a year.
Rate of pay:
Fixed daily rate of £150 to £200 depending on event - catering days are £150 and family days are £200. This is PAYE and you will be on our payroll as an employee. Travel or other expenses are not paid for home railways.
