The Deli Box – Woolacombe
£13.50 per hour
Full-time | Five days per week | Immediate start
The Deli Box is looking for a friendly, energetic and reliable person to join our team in Woolacombe.
We are a high-quality deli and food-retail business offering freshly prepared grab-and-go food, premium deli products, excellent coffee and carefully selected retail lines.
This is not simply a till position. You will be involved across the business, serving customers, preparing fresh food, making drinks, maintaining displays and helping to keep the shop running smoothly throughout the day.
Woolacombe becomes extremely busy during the main season, so we need someone who enjoys working at pace, takes pride in doing things properly and remains friendly and composed when there is a queue out of the door.
The role
Your responsibilities will include:
- Welcoming customers and providing friendly, confident service
- Taking orders and operating the till
- Handling cash and processing card payments
- Preparing sandwiches, baguettes, paninis and salads
- Preparing grab-and-go food, grazing boxes and platters
- Portioning and presenting food neatly and consistently
- Making a full range of coffees using a commercial espresso machine
- Preparing teas, hot chocolates and iced drinks
- Keeping food counters and retail displays well stocked and presentable
- Replenishing shelves and monitoring stock levels
- Checking dates and rotating stock correctly
- Receiving and putting away deliveries
- Maintaining high standards of cleanliness throughout the shop
- Cleaning counters, tables, equipment and customer areas
- Assisting with opening and closing procedures
- Taking initiative and identifying jobs that need doing without always being asked
The role may eventually include cutting and preparing deli meats and cheeses and using specialist deli equipment. Full training will be provided where required.
About you
We are looking for someone who is:
- Friendly, outgoing and comfortable speaking with customers
- Reliable, punctual and genuinely committed to their shifts
- Energetic and able to work efficiently during busy periods
- Hard-working and willing to help wherever needed
- Organised, clean and attentive to detail
- Able to use their own initiative
- Confident working as part of a small team
- Capable of occasionally working independently
- Positive, personable and able to have a laugh while still getting the job done
You must have at least one year of customer-service experience.
Previous experience in a deli, café, hospitality, food-retail or food-preparation environment is preferred but not essential.
Previous barista experience would be a strong advantage. However, training can be provided to the right person.
A food-hygiene qualification is not required before starting, as appropriate training can be provided.
