About the Role
We are seeking a confident and experienced Senior Waking Night Children’s Wellbeing Practitioner to join our therapeutic team within a three-bedded residential children’s home, supporting children and young people aged 7–17.
As shift lead, you will take responsibility for the running of the home during your shift, ensuring that high standards of care, safeguarding, and practice are consistently maintained. You will provide leadership and guidance to junior staff, model trauma-informed and child-centered practice, and contribute to a positive, stable, and nurturing home environment.
The role involves delivering high-quality, therapeutic care that supports children’s emotional wellbeing, promotes positive behaviour, and enables them to make progress in line with their individual care plans. You will work closely with managers and external professionals, contribute to risk management and care planning, and support staff development through reflective practice and supervision.
Responsibilities
· Remain awake, vigilant, and responsive throughout the night to ensure the safety, welfare, and security of young people and the home.
· Lead and coordinate night shifts, providing guidance, support, and oversight to staff while maintaining high standards of care and safeguarding practice.
· Deliver therapeutic care and emotional support to young people, responding appropriately to their individual needs, wellbeing, and night-time routines.
· Complete and oversee accurate documentation, including care records, incident reports, medication records, risk assessments, and shift handovers.
· Ensure the home remains safe, secure, and compliant overnight, responding effectively to incidents, emergencies, and safeguarding concerns.
What We’re Looking For
· At least 2 years’ experience in residential childcare
· Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare (or equivalent) – essential
· Confident in leading shifts and managing responsibilities
· Passionate about promoting recovery and positive outcomes for children
