We are currently seeking a Marine Operative to join our Marine team at the Port of Goole. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who enjoys working outdoors, thrives in a hands-on environment and takes pride in maintaining the highest standards of safety and operational excellence.
The Role
As a Marine Operative, you will play a key part in supporting the safe and efficient operation of the Port of Goole. Working within the Marine Department and reporting to the Duty Assistant Dock Master, you will undertake a range of marine and port operations activities, ensuring vessels, infrastructure and equipment are managed safely and effectively.
This is a varied role that combines practical marine operations, maintenance activities and emergency response support. Working a 12-hour shift pattern of 2 days, 2 nights and 4 days off, repeated over a 5-cycle rotation, with 14 days off built into the roster.
What You'll Be Doing
Carrying out mooring operations for vessels within the dock and at Blacktoft Jetty
Working safely in accordance with risk assessments, safe systems of work and ABP safety standards
Participating in toolbox talks and contributing to a positive safety culture
Operating lock machinery, sluices and swing bridges following appropriate training
Handling and operating mooring boats to support port activities
Removing debris from dock areas and positioning fenders as required
Supporting oil spill response activities and other emergency operations
Assisting with general maintenance duties across the port and Marine Control facilities
Reporting faults, damage and unsafe conditions promptly
Providing support to the Engineering team when required
Participating in training and development activities to enhance skills and knowledge
Essential Requirements
Strong commitment to health, safety and environmental standards
Ability to work safely and follow established procedures and systems of work
Flexible approach to working shifts and providing cover when required
Ability to work both independently and as part of a close-knit operational team
Good written and verbal communication skills
Strong organisational skills with the ability to prioritise tasks effectively
Full UK driving licence
Physically capable of carrying out manual duties, including working outdoors and near water
Desirable Experience and Qualifications
Experience within a port, marine or operational environment
Knowledge of port operations and the marine industry
Understanding of emergency response and oil spill response procedures
RYA Powerboat Level 2 qualification
