BRIGHTON HILL PRESCHOOL ARE HIRING Early Years Practitioner – Monday-Thursday 9.00am – 2.45pm Term Time only. Start date for September 2026
If you can turn a cardboard box into a pirate ship, sing “Wind the Bobbin Up” with full commitment and spot a toddler about to climb somewhere they absolutely should not — we’d love to hear from you.
This is a rewarding role for someone who genuinely loves helping young children learn, grow and feel safe. It is also important to be honest: this job is hard work. It is busy, practical, sometimes messy, emotionally demanding, and not highly paid. We want applicants who understand that from the start and still feel excited about making a real difference every day.
The Role
· Provide a safe, caring and stimulating environment for children aged 2–5.
· Plan and support fun, age-appropriate activities that encourage learning through play.
· Observe, assess and record children’s progress in line with the EYFS.
· Support children with personal care routines, including toileting, changing and hygiene needs where required.
· Build warm, professional relationships with children, parents, carers and colleagues.
· Follow safeguarding, health and safety, and Preschool policies at all times.
· Help maintain a clean, organised and welcoming setting.
· Work as part of a team in a fast-paced environment where no two days are the same.
· Be ready to spend much of the day on your feet, outdoors in all weather, and fully involved in children’s play and care.
About You
· You are warm, energetic, patient and reliable.
· You have a genuine passion for supporting children in their early years.
· You understand that this role is physically active and emotionally demanding.
· You are happy to pitch in with everything from messy play to story time to cleaning up sand for the third time that day.
· You work well with others and communicate clearly with families and colleagues.
· A relevant Early Years qualification is preferred, and a good understanding of the EYFS and safeguarding responsibilities is highly desirable.
· You must be willing to complete all required safer recruitment and suitability checks to work with children.
A Quick Word on Pay and Reality
We believe in being upfront: early years work is incredibly valuable, but it is not a highly paid profession. If you are looking for an easy role or a big salary, this probably is not the job for you. If, however, you are motivated by seeing children flourish, being part of their earliest milestones, and doing work that truly matters, you may find this role deeply rewarding.
This role would suit someone with a big heart, plenty of energy, a good sense of humour, and the resilience to handle busy days with a smile. If that sounds like you, we’d love to hear from you.
