Job Summary:
The Multi-Skilled Bathroom and Kitchen Fitter will be responsible for the installation, refurbishment, and maintenance of bathroom and kitchen areas within mental health healthcare facilities. The role requires a high standard of workmanship, adherence to health and safety regulations, and sensitivity to working within secure and therapeutic environments.
The ideal candidate will be a competent tradesperson with experience in plumbing, carpentry and basic electrical work.
Key Responsibilities:
- Install and refurbish bathrooms and kitchens to a high standard, including fitting units, worktops, sanitary ware, and fixtures.
- Carry out all associated plumbing, carpentry, tiling, flooring, and finishing work.
- Work in compliance with healthcare standards, ensuring anti-ligature, infection control, and safety specifications are met.
- Conduct maintenance and repair works with minimal disruption to clinical operations.
- Assess materials and labour requirements for each project and liaise with supervisors regarding procurement and scheduling.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant health, safety, and environmental policies and procedures.
- Maintain accurate job records, including before/after photos, materials used, and completion reports.
- Communicate professionally and sensitively with staff and service users in mental health environments.
- Work collaboratively with other trades, contractors, and estates teams to deliver high-quality results on time.
- Respond to emergency maintenance requests as required.
Essential Skills and Experience:
- Proven experience as a bathroom and/or kitchen fitter.
- Competent in multiple trades, including plumbing, carpentry, tiling, and general building work.
- Understanding of working within healthcare environments, preferably mental health or secure settings.
- Knowledge of anti-ligature fittings and infection control measures.
- Ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications.
- Full UK driving licence.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Desirable Qualifications:
- NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Plumbing, Carpentry, or a related trade.
- Experience in reactive and planned maintenance within healthcare or public sector buildings.
