The Role

Hours: Shifts 4 on 4 off 0700-1900 1900-0700
As Production Manager, you will provide strong leadership and operational direction to the production team, ensuring the achievement of business objectives while maintaining the highest standards of health and safety, product quality, operational efficiency and customer service.
This is a hands-on leadership position, with responsibility for the safe, efficient and effective day-to-day operation of the extrusion lines. You will lead the team to deliver consistent, right-first-time production, while maximising productivity, minimising waste and reducing operational downtime.
A key element of the role will be ensuring the effective management and coordination of reactive maintenance, Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) and Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM). You will work closely with the relevant teams to maintain equipment reliability, optimise line performance and minimise disruption to production.
Reporting to the Operations Manager, you will have overall responsibility for the operational performance and safe running of the shift. This will require a proactive approach to decision-making, problem-solving and people management, ensuring that operational issues are resolved efficiently and escalated appropriately when required.
You will lead by example, creating a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, teamwork and operational excellence, while developing and motivating the production team to achieve consistently high standards of performance.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead, manage, coach and motivate the production team to consistently achieve operational, quality and performance targets.
- Take overall responsibility for the safe and efficient operation of the extrusion lines during nights and weekends.
- Ensure full compliance with all health and safety, quality, environmental and company standards.
- Drive a right-first-time culture, ensuring production meets required quality specifications and customer expectations.
- Monitor and improve production performance, identifying opportunities to increase efficiency, reduce waste and minimise downtime.
- Effectively manage production issues, equipment breakdowns and operational challenges, ensuring timely and appropriate corrective action.
- Lead reactive maintenance, TPM and PPM programmes to maximise equipment availability, reliability and overall equipment effectiveness.
- Work collaboratively with engineering, quality, planning and other departments to ensure smooth and efficient production operations.
- Ensure accurate and effective shift handovers, maintaining clear communication across all areas of the business.
- Monitor key production and performance indicators, taking proactive action where results fall below required standards.
- Promote and embed a culture of continuous improvement, operational discipline and accountability across the production team.
- Ensure all relevant procedures, policies, risk assessments and legislative requirements are consistently adhered to.
- Provide clear leadership and make effective operational decisions when managing the site outside of normal management hours.
- Escalate significant operational, quality, safety or personnel issues to the Operations Manager in a timely and appropriate manner.
- Support the ongoing development, training and capability of the production team to ensure a high-performing and engaged workforce.
Requirements:
- Previous experience as a Production / Maintenance / Manufacturing Manager or similar.
- Strong maintenance, fault-finding and continuous improvement experience.
- Knowledge of food-grade manufacturing environments.
- Excellent leadership and problem-solving skills.
Desirable Training / Qualifications:
- Level 3 in engineering maintenance discipline. Electrical (preferred) or mechanical.
- Strong Health and Safety knowledge. IOSH, NEBOSH
- HACCP
- FLT counter balance
- MEWP license.
Pay: £44,457.12 per year
