The Role
We are seeking a Sustainability Coordinator to serve as the operational engine of our Sustainability team. In this pivotal role, you will manage the technical and administrative building blocks that support the delivery of Medik8’s overarching Sustainability Strategy. From managing raw material approvals and packaging recyclability assessments to maintaining carbon primary data and green claim substantiation files, you will ensure high standards of environmental integrity are embedded across every product lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities
Operational Management & Approvals: Manage day-to-day sustainability approvals for raw materials in alignment with R&D, partner with suppliers to trace natural raw materials, conduct global recyclability assessments, and sign off on product artwork.
Carbon Inventory & PCFs: Own input data collection processes for carbon footprinting, compile data for Product Carbon Footprints (PCFs), proactively audit carbon data for anomalies, and engage suppliers on carbon data initiatives.
Green Claims & Anti-Greenwashing: Own evidence gathering for environmental marketing claims to ensure strict adherence to global directives (e.g., ECGT, ASA/CMA), maintaining complete and transparent substantiation files.
Data Integrity & Systems: Act as data guardian for all packaging, chemical, and ethical sustainability information, conducting regular audits in Odoo to maintain a single source of truth and ensure audit readiness.
Reporting & Compliance: Manage accurate end-to-end sustainability reporting suites, provide technical briefs to internal Data teams, and coordinate compliance reporting for EPR regulations and Plastic Taxes across key territories.
People & Internal Engagement: Directly line manage and foster the professional development of one Sustainability Apprentice, while designing and delivering training for R&D, Marketing, and Procurement teams.
What We Are Looking For
Essential Criteria
Sustainability & Carbon Operations: Demonstrable experience handling carbon inventory data collection, compiling underlying data for PCFs, or managing environmental metrics.
Claims Substantiation & Compliance: Proven experience gathering and structuring evidence files to support environmental claims and prevent greenwashing.
Technical Assessments & Traceability: Practical knowledge of conducting packaging recyclability assessments, artwork checks, or raw material traceability workflows.
Stakeholder Engagement & Team Leadership: Strong collaborative skills across cross-functional teams (R&D, Marketing, Procurement). take the last bit out -> alongside the capability to mentor or manage junior team members.
Data Systems & Accuracy: Experience managing sustainability data (collecting, manipulating in Excel or similar, veryfing integrity) for internal and external reporting. And put that at the top before carbon
Stakeholder Engagement & Team Leadership: Strong collaborative skills across cross-functional teams (R&D, Marketing, Procurement) alongside the capability to mentor or manage junior team members.
Understanding of packaging regulations such as EPR (Extended Producer Responsibility), Plastic Packaging Tax and PPWR (Eu packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation).
Desirable Criteria
Experience operating within a fast-paced FMCG, cosmetics, personal care, or manufacturing environment.
Direct experience handling EPR (Extended Producer Responsibility) or Plastic Packaging Tax compliance submissions.
Familiarity with third-party certification frameworks (such as the Vegan Society, Cruelty Free International, or B Corp standards).
Claims Substantiation & Compliance: Proven experience gathering and structuring evidence files to support environmental claims and prevent greenwashing.
Direct experience handling EPR (Extended Producer Responsibility) or Plastic Packaging Tax compliance submissions
