Job Overview:
As a Commis Chef at Hotel Indigo, you will be an essential part of our culinary team, supporting the kitchen's day-to-day operations. You will be responsible for preparing and cooking food according to the hotel’s high standards, learning various cooking techniques, and contributing to the overall kitchen operations. Key Responsibilities:
- Food Preparation: Assist in the preparation and cooking of dishes according to the menu and standards set by the Chef de Partie or Sous Chef.
- Cooking Techniques: Learn and develop cooking skills across different sections of the kitchen, including hot, cold, pastry, and garnish sections.
- Ingredient Handling: Ensure the proper handling, storage, and labelling of ingredients following health and safety regulations.
- Section Assistance: Support the Chef de Partie and Sous Chef in their section, maintaining cleanliness and organisation while contributing to smooth kitchen operations.
- Quality Control: Assist in ensuring all dishes leaving the kitchen meet Hotel Indigo’s standards for presentation, flavour, and consistency.
- Health and Safety Compliance: Maintain cleanliness and hygiene in your work area, adhering to food safety standards and hotel protocols.
- Equipment Maintenance: Assist in the proper use and maintenance of kitchen equipment, ensuring tools are kept clean and in good working order.
- Stock Control: Help with receiving and organising food deliveries, ensuring that stock levels are maintained and that ingredients are rotated properly.
- Team Collaboration: Work as part of a team, ensuring that the kitchen operates efficiently and effectively, especially during busy service periods.
- Learning and Development: Take on training opportunities and seek to develop skills and knowledge under the guidance of more senior kitchen staff.
Qualifications:
- Education: Culinary certification is preferred but not required with relevant kitchen experience.
- Experience: Previous experience in a kitchen environment is an advantage, but not mandatory for entry-level candidates.

- Basic knowledge of food preparation and cooking techniques.
- Ability to work efficiently and maintain focus in a high-pressure environment.
