Key ResponsibilitiesMaintenance and Repairs
- Carry out day-to-day maintenance and repairs throughout the home.
- Respond promptly to maintenance requests from staff and management.
- Undertake basic plumbing, electrical, decorating, carpentry, and general DIY tasks within competency.
- Maintain fixtures, fittings, furniture, doors, windows, flooring, and equipment.
- Arrange and supervise external contractors where required.
Health and Safety
- Ensure the premises comply with all relevant health and safety legislation.
- Conduct regular inspections of the building, grounds, and equipment.
- Complete routine safety checks including fire doors, emergency lighting, water temperature monitoring, and other scheduled compliance checks.
- Report hazards and take appropriate action to minimise risks.
- Maintain accurate maintenance and safety records.
Grounds Maintenance
- Maintain gardens, pathways, car parks, fencing, and external areas to ensure they remain safe and presentable.
- Carry out seasonal maintenance such as leaf clearance, gritting, and basic landscaping.
Equipment and Compliance
- Assist with planned preventative maintenance programmes.
- Ensure equipment is maintained in accordance with manufacturers' recommendations.
- Monitor stock levels of maintenance supplies and request replacements when required.
- Support compliance with CQC regulations and internal quality standards.
General Duties
- Support the Home Manager with refurbishment and improvement projects.
- Assist with room preparation for new admissions.
- Help move furniture and equipment safely when required.
- Be available to respond to emergency maintenance issues as necessary.
- Promote a positive image of the home through maintaining high standards of presentation.
Person Specification Essential
- Previous experience in building maintenance, facilities management, or a similar role.
- Practical skills in general maintenance, including basic plumbing, carpentry, decorating, and repairs.
- Good understanding of health and safety regulations.
- Ability to work independently and prioritise workload.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Reliable, trustworthy, and flexible.
- Ability to maintain accurate records.
- Full UK driving licence.
Desirable
- Previous experience working within a care home, healthcare, or residential setting.
- Knowledge of CQC standards.
- Health and Safety qualification (e.g. IOSH Working Safely).
- PAT Testing qualification.
- Legionella awareness training.
- Fire safety awareness training.
- Basic electrical or plumbing qualifications.
