Job Overview
We are looking for an experienced and highly organised Garage Operational Manager to oversee the daily running of our busy automotive workshop. You will ensure smooth workflow, maintain high standards of safety and quality, and lead a motivated team to deliver exceptional customer service. This role is ideal for someone with strong garage management experience who can balance hands‑on involvement with strategic operational oversight.
Responsibilities
- Oversee daily garage operations to ensure efficient workflow and timely job completion
- Coordinate technicians and admin staff, prioritising repairs, diagnostics, MOTs, and service appointments
- Maintain a safe working environment through strict adherence to health & safety protocols
- Ensure proper use, maintenance, and calibration of workshop tools, lifts, and equipment
- Manage stock levels for parts, consumables, and tools, ensuring availability for all jobs
- Train, mentor, and support team members on procedures, safety standards, and best practices
- Conduct quality checks on completed work to maintain high customer satisfaction
- Handle customer queries, complaints, and service updates professionally
- Monitor costs, invoicing, and monthly performance to support profitable operations
- Liaise with suppliers to secure competitive pricing and reliable delivery
Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in similar operational role
- Strong mechanical understanding of repair processes and automotive systems
- Hands‑on experience with workshop tools and diagnostic equipment
- Proven leadership skills with the ability to motivate and guide a diverse team
- Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail
- Confident communicator with customers, suppliers, and staff
- Knowledge of garage safety regulations and compliance requirements
- Experience with VGM or other garage management software (preferred)
