The Role: Operations & Office Manager
We’re seeking a highly organised, adaptable, and quick-thinking Operations & Office Manager to join our expanding team just outside Durham city centre. You’ll report directly to the Operations Director and be central to the smooth running of our head office.
Key Responsibilities
Operational responsibilities (60% of the role) will include:
- To assist with the implementation and improvement of processes & workflows from manual spreadsheet based systems, to cloud based systems covering:
- Workforce management
- Timesheets
- Stock Control.
- People operations – all elements of HR processes, recruitment, through interviewing, staff onboarding, induction, performance reviews, training support, and offboarding. Our partner, Bright HR provides HR systems and HR support.
- Supply chain management & stock control – Managing stock and equipment to ensure effective use of resource and control costs.
- H&S - Ensure H&S policies are adhered to and successful completion of yearly H&S accreditation.
- Reporting - KPIs are agreed and progress towards them is measured.
- Compliance - Work towards ISO9001 & 14001.
Office responsibilities (40% of the role) will include:
- Manage and organise the Durham office
- Maintain office supplier relationships and contract renewals
- Arrange all company travel
- Oversee fleet management (servicing, MOTs, breakdowns)
- Act as liaison between the Directors and management team
- Provide support to Directors
- Organise company events
- General administrative duties
- Act as the professional and welcoming face of the office

A forward-thinking self-starter with a small-office mentality - ready to roll up your sleeves and get stuck in. You’ll be working closely with a diverse management team, so flexibility and strong interpersonal skills are key.
Qualifications & Competencies
- GCSE Maths & English (Grade 5/C or above)
- Proven experience with supervisory responsibilities, and ideally previous management experience.
- Systematic and methodical approach.
- Excellent verbal, analytical and written communication skills are essential.
- Strong relationship-building ability
- Self-motivated and target-driven - a drive to go the extra mile and succeed
- Ability to manage own workload and prioritise according to customer and business needs.
- IT literate in MS Office or Google Workspace
- Comfortable using websites and supplier portals
- Willingness to learn new ways of working, i.e. we’re starting to explore the use of AI tools and techniques - training will be provided.
