At Tetra Tech, you’ll work on high-impact projects across the UK, helping to tackle some of the most complex environmental and civil engineering challenges of our time. You’ll play a central role in shaping technically excellent, practical and sustainable solutions, supporting schemes from early appraisal through to detailed design and delivery.
Purpose & Scope of the Role
As a Senior Engineer, you will support the delivery of projects across a portfolio of government agency work, including the Environment Agency, water company, local authority and private sector projects.
Our work touches every aspect of the built and natural environment. You will help coordinate between delivery partners, technical specialists and stakeholders, so that projects progress from concept to delivery.
Your Impact in this position
You will help make sure that complex projects progress with confidence, quality and purpose. Your contribution will strengthen technical decisions, improve coordination and support the delivery of solutions that are robust, buildable and aligned to client and stakeholder needs.
Core Capabilities
Technical Excellence
Experience in civil engineering and/or flood risk management, with the ability to support technical approvals, respond to site and design queries, and contribute to the development of high-quality engineering solutions.
Project Delivery
Experience supporting project and programme delivery through use of controls, including decision logs, action trackers, risk registers, assumptions logs and governance reporting.
Collaborative Decision-Making
Strong understanding of how to support design decisions through workshops, evidence-based option testing and clear documentation of outcomes and rationale.
Stakeholder Engagement
Ability to engage effectively with delivery partners, statutory bodies and external stakeholders to secure buy-in, manage interfaces and maintain constructive working relationships.
Leadership & Continuous Improvement
A proactive, structured approach to identifying issues early, escalating appropriately, learning from delivery experience and improving outcomes through lessons learned and best practice.
Skills, Qualifications & Experience
Degree qualified in civil engineering, environmental management or a related discipline, with professional qualification as a Chartered Engineer or working towards chartership with a relevant institution such as MICE or MCIWEM.
You should have experience working in multidisciplinary project environments and a strong understanding of governance, stakeholder coordination and quality management processes. A track record in supporting or leading technical reviews, collaborative workshops, or construction-stage activities would be expected.
You should demonstrate the confidence to manage your own technical outputs, support junior colleagues and contribute positively to the wider success of the team.
A full UK driving licence and flexibility to travel to project or client locations is desirable.
Working Environment
This role can be based flexibly in the UK, with hybrid working supported. The role will involve collaboration with teams and stakeholders across multiple locations, so occasional travel will be required. Flexibility may also be needed to support workshops, project meetings and key delivery milestones.
