About Us
We are seeking an enthusiastic, motivated and dedicated and qualified ELSA to join the Loxwood team. This is an exciting opportunity to work within our small, rural village primary school, where children’s wellbeing and individual needs are at the heart of everything we do. The ELSA will be expected to work with individual children or with groups of children who are experiencing difficulties with emotional literacy or other aspects of school or home life as identified by the class teacher or any other significant adult. We are looking for someone who is flexible, self-motivated and able to take initiative, with a nurturing approach that reflects our inclusive ethos and commitment to helping every child achieve their potential.

Salary: NJC Grade 4, Scale Point 6 (£25,989.00 FTE 2025)
Pro-rated salary (approximately) = £9,614
Paid for 38 weeks per year
Contract Type: Part time working pattern (to be discussed with the successful candidate). Term time only. To work INSET days when requested.
3.25hours per day / 16.25hours per week

What You Need to Succeed
Key Responsibilities
To work under the instruction of the SENDCO to enable quality learning for all pupils. Work may be carried out in the classroom or outside or with small groups.
- Provide structured 1:1, small-group or whole-class support to enable pupils — including those with SEND — to access learning and develop independence.
- Support the implementation of Individual Learning Plans, behaviour plans and EHCP outcomes under the guidance of the class teacher and SENDCO.
- Adapt learning tasks, resources and environments to promote inclusion and access to the curriculum.
- Support pupils’ emotional regulation, communication, social development and wellbeing using agreed school approaches.
- Attend to pupils’ personal needs where required, including social, health, hygiene, first aid and welfare matters.
- Build positive relationships with pupils, acting as a role model and responding appropriately to individual needs.
- Promote inclusion, acceptance and equal access to learning opportunities for all pupils.
- Encourage participation, independence and positive engagement in teacher-led activities.
- Help maintain a calm, purposeful and supportive learning environment.
- Observe, monitor and record pupils’ responses to learning and contribute to assessment information.
- Supervise pupils during lunch, playtimes and other non-lesson times.
- Accompany staff and pupils on trips, visits and off-site activities as required.
- Participate in relevant meetings, training and professional development opportunities.
- Administer basic first aid where necessary.
- Work collaboratively with teachers, SENDCO and external professionals, supporting the wider ethos and aims of the school.
- Maintain confidentiality and adhere to safeguarding, child protection, health & safety, behaviour and data protection policies at all times.
- Contribute to a safe working environment and uphold the staff code of conduct.
- Undertake any other duties reasonably requested by the Headteacher or SENDCO.
- To create, develop and produce resources for use with intervention programmes, as appropriate and may include social skills, emotional skills, friendship, bereavement and anger management groups.
- To lead TA training where necessary.
