Kitchen Porter
Blacks Corner at Culture House Sunderland
Do you want to be part of something genuinely new for Sunderland?
We’re looking for a Kitchen Porter to join the team at Blacks Corner, our farm-to-table delicatessen, eatery and wine bar, opening within the brand-new Culture House Sunderland at Keel Square.
Culture House is set to become one of Sunderland’s newest cultural destinations — a vibrant, welcoming space bringing together the city library, exhibitions, events, creative technology, learning and digital experiences right in the heart of the city. We’re excited to bring our own food offer into this new chapter for Sunderland and are looking for someone who wants to be part of it.
Our food is all about great British farmhouse produce. We work with exceptional cheeses, charcuterie and carefully sourced ingredients to create fresh, handmade food that celebrates the quality of the produce rather than hiding it behind heavy cooking.
As a Kitchen Porter, you’ll play a vital role in keeping the kitchen running smoothly. Working alongside the Kitchen Lead and wider team, you’ll help maintain a clean, organised and efficient kitchen, supporting with washing up, cleaning, deliveries, preparation and general kitchen duties.
You’ll be an important part of the team, helping us maintain the high standards of cleanliness, food hygiene and service that Blacks Corner is known for.
There will also be opportunities to support special events, supper clubs and busy service periods as Blacks Corner becomes part of the programme and atmosphere of Culture House.
About you
Previous experience as a Kitchen Porter, kitchen assistant, catering assistant or in a similar food-service environment is preferred, but we’re also interested in people who have the right attitude and a genuine willingness to learn.
Catering or hospitality experience is beneficial, as this can be a dynamic and demanding environment, particularly when the building is busy with visitors, events and activities.
We’re looking for someone who:
- Takes pride in keeping a kitchen clean, tidy and organised
- Is reliable, hardworking and happy to get stuck in
- Can work quickly and efficiently when things get busy
- Has a positive attitude and enjoys being part of a close team
- Understands the importance of food hygiene and cleanliness
- Is willing to support the kitchen team with a range of tasks
- Can follow instructions and work safely in a busy kitchen environment
- Is organised and able to keep on top of cleaning and kitchen duties
- Has genuine enthusiasm for good food and quality ingredients
- Enjoys working in a lively environment with a varied audience of locals, visitors and Culture House customers
A Level 2 Food Safety / Food Hygiene qualification is preferred. If you don’t currently have one, we can provide the appropriate Level 2 training.
