Job Summary
SafeNest Care Services Ltd is seeking compassionate, reliable and dedicated Healthcare Assistants to provide high-quality, person-centred care to adults in their own homes across Hitchin and the surrounding Hertfordshire area.
You will support individuals to remain safe, comfortable and as independent as possible while respecting their dignity, choices, privacy, culture and personal preferences. Support may include personal care, medication assistance, meal preparation, mobility support, companionship, dementia care, stable mental health support and assistance following hospital discharge.
Previous care experience is desirable but not essential, as appropriate training and support will be provided to suitable candidates who demonstrate the right values and commitment.
This is a community-based role involving travel between service users’ homes. Applicants must hold a full UK driving licence and have reliable access to a vehicle for work.
SafeNest Care Services Ltd is currently unable to provide Skilled Worker visa sponsorship for this vacancy. Applicants must already have the appropriate legal right to work in the UK.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide respectful support with personal care, including washing, bathing, dressing, grooming, oral care and continence care.
- Promote independence by encouraging service users to participate in their care and daily activities wherever possible.
- Assist with mobility, transfers and repositioning in accordance with the individual’s care plan, risk assessment and moving and handling training.
- Support with meal planning, preparation, eating and drinking, taking account of dietary requirements, preferences and cultural needs.
- Provide medication support only when trained, assessed as competent and authorised to do so, and in accordance with SafeNest policies and the service user’s care plan.
- Offer companionship, reassurance and emotional support while promoting social inclusion and well-being.
- Assist with agreed light household tasks, such as laundry, changing bed linen and keeping frequently used areas safe and tidy.
- Follow care plans, risk assessments, safeguarding procedures and infection prevention and control measures.
- Complete accurate, timely and confidential electronic care records following every visit.
- Observe and report changes in a service user’s health, behaviour, mobility or general well-being promptly.
- Escalate concerns, incidents, accidents, medication issues or safeguarding concerns in accordance with SafeNest procedures.
- Communicate professionally with service users, relatives, colleagues and relevant health and social care professionals.
- Respect confidentiality and maintain appropriate professional boundaries.
- Attend required training, supervision, team meetings and competency assessments.
- Work flexibly, which may include mornings, evenings, weekends and bank holidays according to service needs and agreed availability.
Essential Requirements
- A compassionate, respectful and person-centred approach.

- A full UK driving licence.
- Reliable access to a vehicle that can be used for work.
- The existing legal right to work in the UK without requiring Skilled Worker visa sponsorship.
- Good spoken and written English communication skills.
- Basic digital skills and the ability to complete electronic care records accurately.
- Reliability, honesty and good timekeeping.
- Ability to follow care plans, policies, risk assessments and instructions.
- Ability to work independently while contributing effectively to a wider team.
- Willingness to undertake all required training and competency assessments.
- Willingness to provide personal care to service users.
- Flexibility to work according to the needs of the service.
Desirable Requirements
- Previous experience in domiciliary care, healthcare, social care or a similar support role.
- A relevant health or social care qualification.
- Current care-related training certificates.
- Experience supporting people living with dementia, physical disabilities or stable mental health needs.
- A current Enhanced DBS certificate registered with the DBS Update Service.

Pay: £27,000.00-£30,000.00 per year
