R B Watts Ltd are looking for a new yard operative to help keep our yard running smoothly.
The right candidate will be happy to work rain or shine outside; serving customers, loading and unloading deliveries, preparing loads for our delivery drivers and maintaining a tidy, well organised roofing merchants yard.
Main Responsibilities include:
- Loading and Unloading: Safely move roofing supplies, materials, or equipment onto and off company transport vehicles; and supplier vehicles
- Stock Control: Pick, pack, and check orders while keeping inventory organized and stacked correctly in the yard.
- Site Safety: Maintain a clean, tidy workspace and follow strict health and safety rules.
- Customer Service: Greet trade or retail visitors, answer basic questions, and help load their vehicles.
- Equipment Operation: Drive and maintain (complete daily checks etc.) a forklift truck (FLT) if licensed, or complete on-site training to do so.
Key Skills and Requirements:
- Physical fitness: The successful candidate needs to be able to lift heavy items safely (manual handling training will be given)
- Good customer service skills
- Good timekeeping, reliable and a strong work ethic
- Good communication skills to work well with others
- A valid forklift license preferred but not essential (in house training will be given)
Working Shifts/Patterns- 39.5No hours per week (average less rest breaks)
Monday: 0730-1630
Tuesday: 0730-1630
Wednesday: 0730-1630
Thursday: 0730-1630
Friday: 0730-1600
1No hour unpaid break a day, taken as two 15-minute breaks (one morning and one afternoon), and a 30-minute lunch break OR one 15 minute break in the morning and a 45 minute lunch break (dependent on personal preference/business needs on the day)
On occasions (such as when other colleagues are on annual leave) the job may require the successful candidate to open/close the yard; so some flexibility to these working hours may be required.
30No days holiday a year inclusive of bank holidays and Christmas shutdown period (from 24th December to 1st January minimum but may be longer depending on how the days fall in the year)

Starting rate of pay £14/per hour, paid weekly in lieu
