GP Assistant
Chartfield Surgery, Putney, London
Chartfield Surgery is seeking an experienced and capable GP assistant to join our friendly team on a full-time basis.
The ideal candidate will have experience working in a primary care setting and at least two years' experience in a clinical healthcare role. We particularly welcome applications from individuals who are currently studying for the PLAB examination and are looking to develop their experience within UK general practice.
Clinical Responsibilities
- Administering seasonal influenza vaccinations in accordance with practice protocols and national guidance.
- Chaperoning patients during clinical examinations and procedures.
- Supporting seasonal vaccination programmes and health promotion clinics.
- Managing and processing clinical workflows, laboratory results, hospital correspondence and clinical documentation under GP guidance.
- Reviewing incoming clinical correspondence and ensuring appropriate action is taken in line with practice protocols.
- Accurately coding clinical information into patient records using EMIS Web to maintain high-quality medical records.
- Processing prescription requests in accordance with practice procedures prior to GP authorisation.
- Identifying urgent or clinically significant information and escalating concerns appropriately to the clinical team.
- Supporting clinicians with patient follow-up appointments, investigations, referrals, and administrative tasks arising from consultations.
- Assisting with the management of referrals, ensuring all supporting documentation is complete before submission.
- Communicating effectively with patients, hospitals, community services and other healthcare professionals to coordinate patient care.
- Maintaining patient confidentiality and complying with NHS Information Governance, GDPR, safeguarding and practice policies.
- Supporting practice quality improvement initiatives, audits and enhanced services where appropriate.
Administrative Responsibilities
- Using EMIS Web and other digital healthcare systems, including AccuRx, Anima, Abtrace, Docman, TeamNet and other approved practice software.
- Supporting the administration of Patient Participation Group (PPG) meetings when required.
- Assisting with general practice administration and operational tasks.
- Participating in regular administrative and multidisciplinary team meetings.
- Reporting directly to the operations manager and practice manager.
- Supporting the smooth day-to-day running of clinical and administrative services across the practice.
- Undertaking any other clinical or non-clinical duties delegated by the management team, appropriate to the role.
What We're Looking For
- A minimum of two years' experience in a clinical healthcare role.
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage workload effectively and work independently.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Confident using clinical and administrative computer systems.
Desirable
- Experience working within a primary care setting.
- Experience with EMIS Web (preferred but not essential).
- Experience in secondary care will also be considered.
- A friendly, enthusiastic, and proactive attitude with a willingness to support colleagues wherever needed.
- A commitment to improving patient care and contributing to practice development and quality improvement initiatives.
About the Role
As a GP assistant, you will play an important role in supporting both clinical and administrative functions across the practice. You will be expected to manage your own workload efficiently while working collaboratively with the wider team to provide an excellent standard of service to patients.
