About Veteris
Veteris is an independent, founder-led emergency service rebuilding how pet emergencies are handled in the UK. We run two 24/7 ICUs (Shoreditch and Clapham, both RCVS-accredited Small Animal Hospital + Emergency Clinic;) and a mobile ECC fleet covering Greater London, with plans to deepen our presence across the capital.
Founded in 2020, we've grown to ~75 staff organically, which shapes how we work: clinical decisions are made by clinicians, and the people building the service are the ones working in it.
Our ethos is simple: we care for the pet, and we care for the human who cares for the pet. Teamwork, compassion, and continuous growth sit at the centre of how we work.
The Role
You'll join a team of three Clinical Directors, working alongside the Lead Director, the founders, and the wider executive team. The role is genuinely hybrid, weighted toward leadership: roughly 70% leadership, 30% clinical (ICU shifts and/or home visits). The clinical component keeps you close to the floor and credible with the team — it's not a token presence, but it isn't the centre of gravity. Frequent participation in the OOH rota is not expected.
In year one, success looks like:
- Clinical standards and governance held consistently across mobile, Shoreditch, and Clapham — including any new sites coming on stream.
- A working mobile-to-ICU progression pathway, so vets joining on home visits have a clear route into advanced ECC practice.
- A team of ECC vets and nurses who feel mentored, stretched, and supported through unsocial hours.
- Clinical KPIs (case outcomes, complication rates, CPD completion) tracked and reported into the executive team monthly.
- Close partnership with the other Clinical Directors on rota, case review, and CPD architecture.
Day to day, you'll lead and mentor the clinical team, carry your own caseload, run case reviews, partner with operations on systems and training, and represent Veteris externally as a clinical leader.
What we're looking for
Essential:
- 5+ years in veterinary practice, with substantial ECC experience including sole charge.
- Comfortable as first-line surgeon across the core ECC procedures.
- Demonstrable experience leading or directing clinical teams of 10+.
- RCVS-registered and London-based (or relocating).
Nice to have:
- ECC Certificate or working towards it.
- Prior management experience at director or senior lead level.
- Prior home visit / mobile experience.
What we care about as much as the CV: the ability to hold standards across a team you don't see every shift, and the judgement to coach rather than rescue.
