Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated SEMH (Social, Emotional, and Mental Health) Teaching Assistant to support children with special educational needs within a school setting. The successful candidate will work closely with pupils who have autism and other disabilities, providing personalised assistance to enable their full participation in learning activities. Responsibilities
- Assist teachers in delivering tailored educational programmes for pupils with SEMH needs, including those with autism and other disabilities.
- Support children with daily activities, including toddler care where applicable, ensuring their safety and well-being at all times.
- Implement behaviour management strategies in line with individualised plans to promote positive behaviour and social skills.
- Foster a nurturing environment by providing emotional support and encouragement to pupils during lessons and break times.
- Help facilitate communication between pupils and staff, utilising appropriate communication skills to support understanding and expression.
- Assist in organising classroom activities, resources, and materials to ensure an inclusive learning environment.
- Monitor pupils’ progress and report any concerns or achievements to the teaching staff regularly.
Experience
- Prior experience working with individuals with autism or other special educational needs is highly desirable.
- Experience in teaching or supporting children within educational settings is advantageous.
- Knowledge of working with children with disabilities or in toddler care will be considered a plus.
- Strong communication skills are essential for effectively engaging with pupils, colleagues, and parents.
- A compassionate approach combined with patience, adaptability, and organisational skills are vital for success in this role.

Pay: £26,000.00-£28,000.00 per year
