Role Outline
We are looking for an experienced and proactive Senior Occupational Health Advisor (OHA) to provide expert advice, leadership, and a full occupational health service in line with client contracts. In this role, you will deliver high-quality, evidence-based occupational health advice, support employee wellbeing, and provide professional leadership to Occupational Health Nurse Advisors and the wider multidisciplinary team. Working closely with the Occupational Health Manager, you will help drive clinical practice in line with Department of Health guidelines, legislation, and best practice, while fostering a collaborative and effective team environment. You will also deliver consultations, medical assessments, drug and alcohol testing, and training, as well as build strong relationships with clients. The ideal candidate will be a Registered Nurse with a recognised Occupational Health qualification, strong leadership experience, and in-depth knowledge of occupational health legislation. What you'll be doing:

To assess new clients presenting to Occupational Health whether in person or by written referral and initiate management of case

To assess clients fitness to work for the appropriate job role in line with DHC policies and guidelines and issue appropriate fitness certificates.

To write letters to GP/Specialists in line with the Access to Medical reports Act and Data Protection Act

To support the OH manager to advise, monitor and assess the clinical practice of the OH team.

To respond to client/manager’s requests for support/information on the working environment.

To maintain appropriate records in line with departmental protocols on record keeping.

To provide health surveillance in accordance with current legislation.

To empower Occupational Health Nurse advisors to undertake a wider range of clinical activities by ensuring appropriate training, updating and monitoring of relevant training programmes.

To take a senior role in the development and provision of a high profile and pro-active Occupational Health Service.

To maintain valid and up to date registration with the NMC and comply with NMC guidelines in relation to professional issues and clinical supervision.

Develop good working relationships and maintain effective communications with client’s managers and other professionals and external contracts

Responsible for equipment and its maintenance, resources and staff cover, clinical and administratively in partnership with the OH Manager

Provide Occupational Health employees with appropriate regular appraisals, ensuring training and development needs are identified and met
What We Are Looking For
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated individual who is registered with the NMC (Part 1) and holds a postgraduate qualification in Occupational Health. The ideal candidate will have an up-to-date knowledge base of professional and specialist issues, alongside proven experience working within the field of occupational health. You should demonstrate a clear understanding of professional accountability within the scope of practice and have evidence of managerial experience, showcasing strong leadership, motivational, and negotiation skills. A proactive and innovative approach to work is essential, as is the ability to adapt to new challenges and work both independently and collaboratively within a team framework.
Location
This role is located in Warton, near Preston.
Hours
You will work 15 hours a week, ideally on a Wednesday, Thursday or a Friday. You would be working between the hours of 8.45 and 5pm.
