Position: Housing Support Officer
Location: John Frost Square, Newport, NP20 1PA
Start Date: 1 September 2026
Contract Duration: 30 weeks, Temporary
Working Hours: 37 hours per week; hybrid working with 3 days in the office and 2 days remote
Pay Rate: PAYE £14.82 per hour
Job Responsibilities:
- Assess housing support needs and risks for individuals and households, gathering relevant information from statutory and non-statutory sources
- Provide person-centred housing support assessments and identify appropriate interventions
- Act as a key point of contact for housing support matters and respond to enquiries from service users and colleagues
- Support individuals who are homeless, at risk of homelessness or experiencing financial difficulties
- Deliver short-term and early-intervention housing support
- Assess applications for ongoing or long-term support through the Supported Housing and Floating Support Gateway
- Review existing supported housing placements and identify opportunities to improve outcomes and support provision
- Provide clear information, advice and signposting to specialist housing and support services
- Work closely with the Housing Advice and Prevention Team and other internal and external partners
- Maintain accurate records and directories of relevant housing support services
- Ensure assessments and support activities comply with relevant legislation, policies, procedures, confidentiality requirements and data protection standards
- Work collaboratively with colleagues and partner agencies to ensure effective and consistent services
- Attend different locations across the city when required to meet service users and undertake assessments
Person Specification:
Requirements:
- Experience of working with and supporting vulnerable people
- Experience of providing direct housing support or assessing the housing needs of vulnerable individuals
- Knowledge of the housing needs of vulnerable groups
- Ability to assess individual needs, risks and support requirements and identify appropriate interventions
- Experience of working collaboratively with internal teams and external partner agencies
- Good communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build effective relationships with service users and professionals
- Ability to provide person-centred support, information, advice and appropriate signposting
- Understanding of confidentiality, data protection and the importance of accurate record keeping
- Ability to manage workloads effectively, prioritise tasks and meet deadlines
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team
