About the Role
The Graduate Quantity Surveyor will support the Commercial Team in the financial and contractual management of drainage, civil engineering, utility and infrastructure projects. The successful candidate will gain practical experience across all aspects of quantity surveying, including cost management, procurement, contract administration and commercial reporting, while working towards professional development within a supportive environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in preparing estimates, cost plans, budgets and tender submissions.
- Support the commercial management of multiple infrastructure and drainage projects.
- Measure and value completed works in accordance with contract requirements.
- Prepare applications for payment, interim valuations and final accounts.
- Assist with subcontract procurement, tender evaluations and contract administration.
- Monitor project expenditure, cost forecasts and cash flow.
- Assist in the management of compensation events, variations and change control under NEC and other forms of contract.
- Prepare monthly cost reports and commercial performance updates.
- Maintain accurate commercial records, project documentation and contractual correspondence.
- Liaise with operational teams, engineers, project managers, clients, suppliers and subcontractors.
- Attend site visits, progress meetings and commercial reviews.
- Identify opportunities for cost savings, efficiencies and value engineering.
- Ensure compliance with company procedures, contractual obligations and health, safety, environmental and quality standards.
About You
If you are looking to kick start your carer in the drainage business and you meet the below criteria we would love to hear from you
- Degree in Quantity Surveying or a related construction discipline.
- Relevant industry experience through a placement year, internship or Assistant Quantity Surveyor role.
- Strong commercial awareness and willingness to develop within the construction and utilities sector.
- Excellent numerical, analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Good knowledge of Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong organisational and time management abilities.
- Full UK driving licence.
- Willingness to travel to operational sites across the UK.
- Knowledge of NEC contracts.
- Experience within civil engineering, utilities, drainage, highways or infrastructure projects.
- Understanding of cost reporting, procurement and subcontract management.
- Working towards membership of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) or Chartered Institution of Civil Engineering Surveyors (CICES).
