Spring Lakes Watersports & Leisure is a busy outdoor leisure destination in Long Eaton, offering watersports, open-water swimming, family activities and events.
Our on-site café is an important part of the guest experience, serving a range of food and drinks in a lively, fast-paced environment.
About the Role
We are looking for a confident and motivated Food & Beverage Shift Leader to support the day-to-day running of our café.
You will support the Food & Beverage Team Leader and Head of Food & Beverage while acting as the main point of contact for the café team during your assigned shifts. You will coordinate the team, maintain service and food-safety standards, and help ensure guests receive friendly and efficient service.
This is a hands-on role. You will work alongside the team while providing clear direction and responding to operational or guest issues as they arise.
Key Responsibilities
- Act as the main point of contact for the Food & Beverage team during assigned shifts
- Lead and coordinate the team to provide efficient, friendly and consistent service
- Support the Food & Beverage Team Leader and Head of Food & Beverage with the daily operation of the café
- Allocate tasks and ensure team members understand their responsibilities
- Support, coach and provide feedback to team members during shifts
- Oversee food and drink preparation to maintain quality, presentation and consistency
- Ensure food-safety, allergen, hygiene and cleaning procedures are followed
- Monitor stock levels and report shortages or operational issues
- Maintain clean, organised and well-presented kitchen, service and dining areas
- Serve guests, prepare drinks, take orders and assist with food preparation when required
- Respond to guest enquiries and resolve service issues professionally
- Complete opening, closing and shift handover procedures
- Escalate significant incidents or concerns to the appropriate manager
About You
You will ideally have:
- Previous experience in a supervisory, senior team member or shift-leading role within hospitality, catering or food service
- Experience working in a busy café, restaurant, bar or similar environment
- Good knowledge of food hygiene, allergen awareness and safe food-handling practices
- The confidence to coordinate a team and make decisions during a busy shift
- Strong communication and customer-service skills
- A reliable, organised and practical approach to work
- The ability to remain calm and set a positive example during busy periods
- Flexibility to work weekends, bank holidays and additional hours during the summer season
Barista, kitchen or food-preparation experience would be beneficial but is not essential.
