The MSc in International Health and Tropical Medicine (IHTM) is seeking an experienced academic to take on an exciting leadership role as Deputy Director, contributing to the delivery and continued development of the programme. Working closely with the IHTM Director and course team, you will provide academic leadership across teaching, curriculum development and student support, while developing an independent research portfolio and contributing to the wider teaching, research and academic activities of the department.
You will lead key areas of the MSc programme, including curriculum planning, assignment design, research placements and student feedback, as well as lecturing, tutoring and supervising postgraduate students. You will coordinate teaching staff and Teaching Assistants, contribute to admissions and examination processes, and support students throughout their studies. Alongside your teaching responsibilities, you will lead or contribute to research projects, publish and present research findings, seek external research funding, supervise MSc and DPhil research, and support the effective and appropriate use of emerging technologies such as generative AI in teaching and learning.
It is essential that you hold a PhD/DPhil in a relevant field, such as Global Health, and have substantial post-qualification research experience. You should have experience in developing and delivering postgraduate-level teaching, with sufficient depth and breadth of knowledge in global health to contribute to and develop IHTM course content. You will be able to engage and motivate students effectively and demonstrate experience in using new technologies to support teaching and learning. Excellent communication skills are required, including the ability to write reports for different audiences and represent the group effectively at meetings. Sufficient specialist knowledge is required to develop research projects and appropriate methodologies, alongside experience in qualitative and/or quantitative research and analytical techniques. In addition, you should demonstrate a proven ability to develop and write high-quality research proposals.
