Pay:
- Self-employed GP locum: £85 per hour
- Fixed-term salaried GP: £11,500 per session per annum
Contract options: Self-employed locum sessions or 6-month fixed-term salaried posts
Hours: Flexible sessions available across Monday to Sunday, 9:00am to 10:00pm
About Us
The Primary Care Alliance CIC is a GP-led organisation delivering a growing portfolio of urgent, same day and community-based services across Berkshire West.
We work closely with local practices, the Royal Berkshire Hospital and wider system partners to provide high-quality care closer to home and support better access for patients.
We are now looking for experienced GPs to join our Urgent Care Centre workforce at the Royal Berkshire Hospital.
About the Service
Our Urgent Care Centre is based at the Royal Berkshire Hospital and provides same day assessment and treatment for patients with urgent primary care needs.
The service operates 365 days a year, 7 days a week, from 9:00am to 10:00pm.
Appointments are 15 minutes and include a mixture of booked patients and patients streamed directly from the Emergency Department.
We use EMIS Web and Connected Care. Full induction and local orientation will be provided.
About the Role
You will work as part of a supportive multidisciplinary team, managing a wide range of urgent primary care presentations.
This may include:
- Minor illness
- Acute infections
- Respiratory presentations
- Skin conditions
- Abdominal complaints
- Musculoskeletal presentations
- Paediatric presentations
- Urgent medication and treatment requests
- Patients streamed directly from the Emergency Department
Contract Options
We are recruiting self-employed GP locums at £85 per hour.
We are also open to offering 6-month fixed-term salaried GP posts at £11,500 per session per annum.
The service operates across weekdays, evenings and weekends. Salaried sessions may include weekday, evening and weekend working, with no separate evening or weekend enhancements.
We will work with clinicians around availability wherever possible and welcome applications from GPs looking for regular weekly sessions as well as those seeking more flexible locum work.
Essential Requirements
- GMC registration with licence to practise
- Inclusion on the NHS England Performers List
- MRCGP or equivalent experience
- Experience working in General Practice, Urgent Care, Same Day Access or Out of Hours services
- Confidence managing undifferentiated and acute presentations
- Strong clinical decision-making and risk management skills
Desirable
- Previous UCC, UTC or Emergency Department streaming experience
- Experience using EMIS Web
- Experience using Connected Care
- Experience working within multidisciplinary urgent care teams
