Job Title: Maintenance Handyperson
Location: Southampton –(Student Accommodation)
Pay Rate: £14.36 – £16.09 per hour
Hours: 37.5 hours Full-time, Monday to Friday (8am–4pm or 9am–5pm)
Contract: Temporary –
We’re looking for a Maintenance Handyperson to join a large student accommodation site in Southampton during the busy period. This is a practical, varied role working with the on-site facilities team to maintain the student accommodation.
Key Responsibilities
- Room inspections & repairs – checking void rooms, identifying issues, and carrying out basic fixes.
- Bathroom & kitchen upkeep – re-siliconing sinks/showers, unblocking drains, tightening fittings, replacing taps or fixtures.
- Painting & decorating – minor touch-ups and patch painting to ensure rooms and communal areas meet high standards.
- Furniture & fittings – moving, assembling, or repairing furniture across the building.
- General maintenance – small electrical jobs (e.g. lightbulb changes), basic plumbing tasks, joinery repairs, and ensuring all reported issues are resolved.
- Health & safety compliance – working safely, following site procedures, and helping ensure the building is ready for audits and inspections.
- Team support – assisting the wider facilities and housekeeping teams with ad-hoc tasks to keep turnaround on track.
What We’re Looking For
- Previous experience in maintenance, labouring, or a trade background (joinery, plumbing, painting, etc.).
- Confident using tools and carrying out basic repairs.
- Proactive, reliable, and able to adapt to a wide variety of daily tasks.
- A good communicator who can interact well with colleagues and students.
- Flexible, hands-on, and able to work to deadlines.
