Job Purpose
The Transport Manager is responsible for the safe, legal, and efficient operation of a company’s transport activities in compliance with UK transport legislation. This includes managing planners to ensure drivers, vehicles, routes are utilised. And ensuring full adherence to DVSA, HGV, and Operator Licence requirements.

Key Responsibilities
- Ensure full compliance with UK transport legislation, including DVSA regulations, Driver Hours, Working Time Directive, and Operator Licence conditions
- Act as the company’s Transport Manager (CPC holder) where required
- Managing Planners to ensure schedule, drivers, vehicles, and routes to maximise efficiency and service levels
- Oversee, and organise vehicle maintenance, inspections, MOTs, and defect reporting
- Monitor tachograph data, driver behaviour, and hours compliance
- Investigate incidents, accidents, and infringements and implement corrective actions
- Recruit, train, and manage drivers and transport staff
- Control transport budgets, fuel usage, and cost efficiency
- External communication including liaising with and not limited to DVSA, customers, suppliers, and maintenance providers
- Maintain accurate transport records and reporting systems
- Promote health & safety, environmental, and sustainability standards
Skills & Experience
- Proven experience in transport or logistics management within the UK
- Strong working knowledge of UK road transport law
- Experience managing drivers, fleets, and compliance systems
- Excellent organisational, communication, and leadership skills
- Ability to work under pressure and manage competing priorities
- Confident using transport management systems (TMS) and compliance software
- Experience of managing a large fleet - we have a fleet of 30+ HGV vehicles.
Qualifications
- International CPC in Road Haulage – essential where acting as nominated Transport Manager
- Full UK driving licence (HGV licence desirable but not essential)
