Job Title: Depot Manager
Reports To: Logistics Manager
Based At: Basingstoke
Working Hours: 36hrs Nightshift, 21:00-07:30
Salary: £42,850 per annum + up to 10% performance-related bonus, company discounts and pension scheme.
Ideal for someone looking for the next stage in their managerial development, this position would suit Assistant Managers / Senior Team Leaders from a logistics/distribution background.
The ideal candidate is hands-on when needed and able to manage overall depot performance, workplace organisation, annual budget and facility functionality. You will lead a team of drivers, stores staff and Team Leaders.
With an eye for detail and a flexible approach, you must demonstrate a drive to attain and maintain excellent standards. Ensure teams provide outstanding service and all deliveries are completed safely, successfully and on time.

Maintain high morale through coaching, mentoring and celebrating success. Organise inductions and ongoing training with the Learning & Development team.
Maintain operating standards using 5S disciplines. Manage a depot-level Profit & Loss centre, keeping distribution costs and overheads within budget.
Communicate processes, changes and developments through meetings and notice boards. Drive culture and performance against assigned KPIs and deliver local system and IT enhancements aligned with business strategy.
Drive a proactive H&S culture through Gemba Walks, safety audits and behavioural observations.
Record and report all accidents and injuries in line with H&S guidelines. Ensure manual handling training is completed and signed off before equipment use.
Assess risks, ensure safe systems of work are followed, and provide training and reassurance where required.
Review depot and driver performance using a balanced scorecard, regularly discussing results with Team Leaders and drivers:

Provide effective training and inductions to service excellence standards. Listen to staff, act on feedback and drive improvements. Manage staff holidays without compromising operations.
Ensure stock reconciliation and controls are accurate, with old stock rotated to minimise waste.
Ensure stores staff pick orders on time before drivers arrive. Maintain safe movement of staff and vehicles without overcrowding.
Maintain good housekeeping and ensure required works are reported and actioned.
Maintain the cold chain by ensuring doors remain closed and product leaves the chill only when loading is permitted.
Work closely with the Transport team to ensure faults and repairs are addressed promptly.
Complete accident reporting processes, including obtaining third-party details. Maintain high vehicle hygiene standards and accurate, up-to-date Fuel and Ad-Blue logs.
Manage the facility in accordance with H&S regulations and technical food safety standards.
Ensure paperwork is disposed of, scanned or secured in line with GDPR.

Background in dairy, food or drinks distribution preferred
