Bellavista Group of Nursing Homes currently recruiting for a Full time experienced Chef to work in our Barry nursing home .
Main Duties :
- Preparing and cooking meals from scratch using local produce, to a high standard.
- Developing healthy and balanced meals for the service users within the home, ensuring that they are balanced and nutritious.
- Liaising with staff and residents to get feedback from meals or to develop upcoming menu items from request.
- Being aware of the dietary, cultural, and religious backgrounds / requirements of the residents and ensuring that meals are catered around these stipulations.
- Monitoring the kitchen stock, ensuring that any required orders are placed and controlling levels to ensure that all orders are placed before an item becomes out of stock.
- Following the strict food safety guidelines on storing food, ensuring correct labels and storage guidelines are adhered to.
- Maintaining a hygienic and clean environment within the kitchen.
- To be competent in cooking for large numbers and following a varied menu.
- To ensure kitchen is clean and appropriate records are maintained.
- Relevant Cooking / Food Qualifications, i.e. NVQ, Level 2 or equal
- Assist in cooking and planning a varied and nutritious diet within provided budgets, whilst taking into account nutritional and dietary needs;
- The ability to effectively communicate with care staff, service users and visitors;
- Maintain high standards of food hygiene and food safety to ensure all controls, recording and monitoring.
Experience in a similar cook's role is an advantage and you will be asked to verify your qualifications, we will also consider applications from applicants with relevant verified experience in cooking.
Skills Required
- Hold an in-date level 2 Certificate in Food Hygiene and be able to supply a copy of this at time of appointment.
- A strong knowledge of food storage best practices, as you will be responsible for ensuring that all food is kept in the appropriate storage means as well as with correct labelling / date codes.
- Strong interpersonal skills will be beneficial as you will need to maintain positive working relationships with members of your team as well as suppliers.
- You will need a DBS check at time of appointment, so a clean DBS will be essential.
The role will include working alternative weekends, but no split shifts or late nights
As the role involves working with vulnerable people your employment will be subject to appropriate pre-employment checks including referencing and Disclosure and Barring Service check.
Hours discussed at interview, salary depend on experience

Pay: £14.00-£15.25 per hour
