Purpose of the Post
The Cafe Bar Manager is responsible for the day-to-day operation of the new café bar within our community creative learning hub and theatre. We’re looking for someone with the enthusiasm, ideas and commercial understanding to make the space a success. This role plays a key part in creating a welcoming, inclusive and vibrant environment for audiences, participants, artists, visitors and staff. The postholder will ensure high standards of customer service, efficient operations, and a safe, clean and friendly space that supports the wider aims of the organisation.
Key Responsibilities
Operations & Service
· Manage the daily operation of the café bar, including opening and closing procedures
· Serve drinks, food and snacks to a high standard
· Ensure excellent customer service for all visitors, including theatre audiences, workshop participants and community users
· Maintain a clean, tidy and welcoming café bar area at all times
Stock & Suppliers
· Order stock, manage deliveries and maintain appropriate stock levels
· Monitor stock rotation, storage and wastage
· Work with suppliers and suggest alternative or new products where appropriate
Staff & Training
· Help recruit, train, supervise and support café bar staff and volunteers
· Work with our Operations Manager to create staff rotas and ensure adequate cover for performances, events and busy periods within budget
· Provide ongoing training in customer service, food hygiene, health & safety and licensing requirements
Sales & Development
· Monitor sales, cash handling and basic financial reporting
· Use sales data to identify trends and opportunities
· Suggest new products, menus or offers that reflect the community, creative programme and audience needs
Health, Safety & Compliance
· Ensure compliance with food hygiene, health & safety and licensing regulations
· Maintain cleaning schedules and records
· Ensure all staff follow safe working practices
Collaboration & Community Focus
· Work closely with the wider venue team to support performances, events and learning activities
· Contribute ideas to enhance the café bar’s role as a social and creative space
· Promote an inclusive, friendly atmosphere aligned with the organisation’s values
General Duties

Person Specification
Essential
· Experience working and managing in a café, bar or hospitality setting
· Experience of supervising or managing staff
· Strong customer service skills
· Good organisational skills and attention to detail
· Ability to work evenings and weekends
· Knowledge of food hygiene and health & safety practices
Desirable
· Experience working in a theatre, arts venue or community setting
· Personal Licence holder (or willingness to work towards one)
· Experience managing stock and basic budgets
Driving License
