We are seeking a proactive, resourceful and motivated individual to join our team as an Investigations Officer.
This is a unique opportunity to make a tangible impact on our community by identifying, investigating, and helping bring empty homes and commercial premises back into use.
Key Responsibilities

This role will support the delivery of the council’s empty property strategy and problem property action plan.

Identify and investigate empty residential and commercial properties across the borough.

Liaise with property owners, landlords, and other stakeholders to encourage voluntary occupation or sale.

Maintain accurate records and databases on vacant properties.

Work in partnership with internal departments (Council Tax, Planning, Housing, Legal) and external agencies.

Virtual and on-site home visits to determine eligibility for Council Tax Reduction, Housing Benefit and other discounts.

Produce reports to the valuation on office and track progress.

Monitor new build domestic and commercial sites via planning applications and carry out visits when necessary.
About You
You will need:

Experience of working in a Revenues and Benefits environment, property investigation, Council Tax Reduction, Housing Benefit or a similar field.

Excellent communication, negotiation and stakeholder engagement skills.

Strong organisational skills and ability to manage caseloads.
-
Ability to work independently and as part of a multi-disciplinary team.

A background in local government, enforcement, and housing would be advantageous.
