Role Overview
We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Technical Program Manager to support the delivery of electronic manufacturing projects from concept through to production. This role is ideal for someone starting their career in project management within a contract electronics manufacturing environment, with a strong interest in engineering data, product structures, and cross-functional coordination.
They will gain hands-on experience in project planning, customer coordination, and technical validation processes, particularly focusing on Bill of Materials (BOM) accuracy, Manufacturer Part Number (MPN) validation, and PCB footprint alignment.
The key responsibilities:
Project Management Support
- Assist in planning, tracking, and delivering customer projects to agreed timelines, cost, and quality targets
- Support the creation and maintenance of project plans, schedules, and risk registers
- Coordinate with engineering, procurement, production, and quality teams
- Participate in customer meetings and internal project reviews
- Track project milestones and report progress to stakeholders
BOM Validation & Technical Data Management
- Review and validate Bills of Materials (BOMs) for accuracy and completeness
- Verify Manufacturer Part Numbers (MPNs) against approved supplier databases
- Check component lifecycle status (active, obsolete, NRND) and flag risks
- Ensure component specifications align with design intent and manufacturing requirements
- Validate PCB footprints against component datasheets and library standards
- Support Engineering Change (ECs) and BOM revisions
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Work closely with customer engineering teams to resolve discrepancies in component data
- Liaise with procurement to ensure component availability and lead-time alignment
- Support production teams in resolving BOM or documentation issues
- Contribute to continuous improvement of data quality and project processes
Qualifications, skills and experience:
Qualifications
- A-levels, BTEC, or equivalent in STEM, Engineering, Electronics, Mathematics or a related field
- Or currently enrolled in an Engineering/Project Management apprenticeship program
Skills & Competencies
Essential
- Strong attention to detail and analytical thinking
- Understanding of Critical Path Analysis
- Basic understanding of electronics components (resistors, ICs, connectors, etc.)
- Interest in project management principles and tools
- Good organisational and time management skills
- Ability to interpret technical datasheets and documentation
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (data handling, basic formulas)
- Strong communication skills and willingness to learn
Desirable
- Familiarity with BOM structures and ERP/MRP systems
- Basic knowledge of PCB design and component footprints
- Understanding of electronics manufacturing processes (SMT, through-hole, assembly)
- Exposure to project management methodologies (e.g., Agile, Waterfall)
- Experience using Microsoft Project or engineering databases
