Ready for Your Next Step?
Are you an experienced Workshop Controller or Service Manager who knows trucks inside out? Would you like to take that knowledge into a management role, leading a technical team and shaping how a fleet of 2,000 assets is maintained? If so, we would like to hear from you.
About Us
Hexagon Leasing is an award-winning provider of contract hire, rental, and fleet management in the commercial vehicle sector. With around 2,000 assets, we supply and manage some of the highest-profile transport and distribution companies in the UK.
At Hexagon we look to recruit individuals from different backgrounds, we celebrate diversity and promote inclusivity.
The Role
As Technical Manager, you will oversee our fleet operations with a strong focus on cost control and supplier service delivery. Reporting to the Operations Director, you will make sure our fleet is maintained to the highest standards while keeping costs under control for Hexagon and our customers. You will lead a team of seven, made up of Fleet Engineers and Maintenance Controllers, and work closely with our Customer Service, Supply Chain, and Sales teams.
This is a great opportunity for someone currently running a workshop who wants to move into a broader management role - your technical knowledge of commercial vehicles will be used every day, but from an office rather than the workshop floor.
Key Responsibilities:
- Cost Control: Develop and implement cost control strategies across fleet maintenance, manage authorisations to minimise vehicle downtime and open jobs, and make sure warranty claims and supplier goodwill are maximised.
- Supplier Management: Manage our third-party supplier network, negotiate competitive pricing, monitor performance against SLAs, and run an annual audit schedule for key suppliers.
- Leadership & Team Development: Lead and develop a team of Fleet Engineers and Maintenance Controllers, setting clear objectives and supporting their professional development.
- Technical Support: Provide technical support to colleagues and customers on vehicle engineering, including specifications and maintenance requirements.
- Compliance: Make sure fleet operations meet legal, health & safety, and operator licence requirements, and manage manufacturer recall campaigns and technical bulletins.
- Reporting & Improvement: Maintain reporting on fleet performance, maintenance costs, and supplier effectiveness, presenting insights to the senior leadership team.
We would love to hear from you if you have:
- Experience as a Workshop Controller or Service Manager within the commercial vehicle industry, in either a fleet or dealer environment.
- Strong technical knowledge of HGVs, and their repair and maintenance.
- An industry recognised qualification in Heavy Goods Vehicle repair and maintenance.
- Experience of managing third-party suppliers and controlling maintenance costs.
- Experience of leading and developing a team.
- Strong commercial acumen and the ability to build good working relationships with suppliers, colleagues, and senior management.
- The ability to work under pressure and manage multiple priorities.
This role is fully office based at our Head Office in Alrewas, so you will need to live within a comfortable commute of the surrounding areas.
