Civil and Commercial Costs Ltd are a Chambers and Partners and Legal 500 ranked legal costs consultancy firm. We have offices in Manchester and London, acting in all areas of costs law including catastrophic personal injury, commercial litigation, clinical negligence, court of protection, Immigration and Judicial Review (including Legal Aid matters) and financial litigation.
We are currently looking for the next generation of emerging talent to complement our existing team in Manchester.
The successful candidate will receive comprehensive in-house training in order to learn the essential skills that will enable them to become responsible for:
- Providing dedicated costs support to all clients.
- Preparing and submitting claims for costs for assessment.
- Negotiating successful settlements (Claimant and Defendant)
Beginning in October 2026, we expect this years intake will be proficient in the following key tasks by the end of Year 1:
Key Tasks (Month 1 to 6)
- Drafting Bills for assessment by the court.
- Preparing Costs Estimates and Schedules.
- Liaising and advising clients in regard to their cost claims.
- Negotiating successful settlement of costs.
Following on from this, training will continue, further developing the skills obtained and pushing each trainee one step closer to possessing all of the tools required to become a fully-fledged costs draftsman.
Key Tasks (Month 6 to 12)
- Preparing Costs Budgets and Discussion Reports
- Preparing Precedent T budget variations
- Drafting Points of Dispute and Replies to Points of Dispute.
- Preparing applications for Interim payments
- Preparing and issuing proceedings (Part 8)
- Advising clients in regard to discrete costs issues
Throughout the training; assessments, appraisals and constructive feedback will be provided. You will also be provided with support from colleagues including from members of the team that began their career with us as trainees, therefore ensuring that they are able to relate to your experiences, having been there themselves.
