Job Overview
We are seeking a qualified and experienced Electrician to carry out Electrical Installation Condition Reports (EICRs) across a social housing contract in Reading. The successful candidate will be responsible for inspecting, testing, identifying electrical defects, and ensuring compliance with current electrical safety regulations within occupied and void residential properties.
The role requires a strong focus on quality, compliance, tenant safety, and customer service, ensuring all inspections are completed in accordance with current legislation, contract requirements, and industry best practice.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct EICRs in accordance with current BS 7671 Wiring Regulations.
- Carry out inspection and testing of electrical installations within occupied and void social housing properties.
- Accurately complete EICR certification and associated documentation using handheld devices or reporting software.
- Identify and classify electrical defects (C1, C2, C3, and FI observations).
- Undertake minor remedial works where authorised and required.
- Ensure all work is completed safely, efficiently, and to a high standard.
- Liaise professionally and respectfully with tenants, housing officers, and contract management teams.
- Maintain accurate records and submit completed reports within agreed timescales.
- Ensure compliance with health and safety legislation, company procedures, and client requirements.
- Remain vigilant to property conditions that may indicate damp, mould, condensation, or inadequate ventilation and report concerns in accordance with client procedures.
- Support the client's compliance with Awaab's Law requirements by identifying and escalating any observed housing conditions that may present a risk to tenant health.
Essential Requirements
- NVQ Level 3 in Electrical Installation or equivalent.
- City & Guilds 2391, 2394/2395, or equivalent Inspection and Testing qualification.
- 18th Edition Wiring Regulations (BS 7671).
- ECS/JIB Gold Card.
- Full UK Driving Licence.
- Proven experience carrying out EICRs within domestic properties.
- Strong fault-finding and diagnostic skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage workloads effectively.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills.
Desirable Requirements
- Previous experience working on social housing contracts.
- Experience carrying out remedial works following EICR inspections.
- Knowledge of PDA/mobile reporting systems.
- AM2 qualification.
- Understanding of Awaab's Law and its implications for social housing providers.
- Awareness of Approved Document Part F (Ventilation) and the importance of adequate ventilation in preventing damp, mould, and condensation issues.
- Experience identifying and reporting property defects that may contribute to damp, mould, condensation, or poor indoor air quality.
