About the Role
Good patient care often depends on the everyday support that happens between clinical appointments and major treatments. Patients may need help with personal care, mobility, meals, observations, or simply having someone notice when their condition has changed.
As a Healthcare Support Worker, you will work alongside nurses and other healthcare professionals to provide practical, person-centred support to patients. You will assist with daily care, record basic observations, maintain accurate documentation, and help create a safe and respectful environment.
The role is hands-on and varied. One part of the shift may involve helping a patient move safely or prepare for a procedure, while another may involve recording observations, supporting mealtimes, preparing equipment, or reporting a change in a patient’s condition.
Key Responsibilities
- Support patients with personal care and everyday activities.
- Assist with washing, dressing, toileting, and other personal routines where required.
- Help patients move safely using appropriate techniques and equipment.
- Record routine observations such as temperature, pulse, respiration, and blood pressure when trained.
- Report changes in a patient’s condition promptly to nursing staff.
- Support patients during meals and monitor food and fluid intake where required.
- Assist with preparing patients for examinations, treatments, or procedures.
- Maintain clean and organised patient-care areas.
- Prepare basic equipment and supplies for clinical activities.
- Support infection-prevention and hygiene procedures.
- Maintain accurate care records and observation charts.
- Communicate respectfully with patients, relatives, carers, and healthcare professionals.
- Provide reassurance and practical support to patients experiencing anxiety or discomfort.
- Assist with patient transfers between departments where required.
- Follow safeguarding and confidentiality procedures.
- Support nurses with routine care activities within the boundaries of training.
- Assist with stocking clinical supplies and reporting shortages.
- Follow health, safety, manual-handling, and infection-control requirements.
- Participate in handovers and communicate relevant patient information.
- Complete required training and competency assessments.
What We Are Looking For
- Previous experience in healthcare, care work, residential care, community support, or a similar patient-facing environment is beneficial.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Respectful and compassionate approach when supporting people with different needs.
- Ability to follow clinical instructions and established care procedures.
- Good observational skills and confidence reporting changes in wellbeing.
- Ability to maintain accurate and confidential records.
- Understanding of infection prevention and personal hygiene standards.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary healthcare team.
- Relevant Level 2 or Level 3 Health and Social Care qualification would be advantageous.
- Willingness to complete required healthcare and safeguarding training.
- Ability to remain organised during busy periods.
- Flexibility to work shifts where required.

Working Approach
You pay attention to the small changes that can matter in patient care. You are comfortable providing practical support, asking for clinical guidance when something falls outside your responsibility, and treating every patient with dignity regardless of how busy the shift becomes.
Pay: £28,000.00 per year
