Biomass Service Engineer
Location: Scottish Borders/ Carlisle
Salary: Competitive, depending on experience
Who are we looking for?
Due to continued growth, we are looking for an experienced Biomass Service Engineer to join our expanding service team.
This is a site-based role supporting the operation, servicing and maintenance of a large commercial biomass installation in the Scottish Borders/Carlisle area. The successful candidate will be based on site, carrying out planned preventative maintenance, fault diagnosis and repairs, while also providing support on other commercial biomass systems as required.
The role is primarily focused on Heizomat biomass boilers, alongside experience of other leading manufacturers including Froling, ETA, Herz, Binder and Polytechnik.

The Role
As a Biomass Service Engineer, you will be responsible for:
- Carrying out planned preventative maintenance on commercial biomass boilers.
- Diagnosing and repairing mechanical and electrical faults.
- Inspecting combustion systems, fuel handling equipment and hydraulic systems.
- Servicing pumps, valves, augers, moving floors, fuel extraction systems and associated plant.
- Performing combustion analysis and optimising boiler performance.
- Responding to breakdowns and minimising plant downtime.
- Producing detailed service reports and recommendations.
- Maintaining a safe and organised working environment.
- Providing occasional support to other Alt Group biomass installations when required.
Essential Requirements
- Experience servicing commercial biomass boilers or commercial heating plant.
- Strong mechanical and electrical fault-finding skills.
- Good understanding of hydraulic systems, pumps, valves and heating systems.
- Ability to read electrical schematics and diagnose control system faults.
- Experience using combustion analysers.
- Full UK driving licence.
Desirable
- Experience with Heizomat biomass boilers.
- Experience with Froling, ETA, Herz, Binder, Polytechnik or similar commercial biomass systems.
- Electrical qualifications (18th Edition, ECS, NVQ or equivalent).
- PLC or controls experience.
- Welding or fabrication experience.
- IPAF, PASMA or CSCS certification.
