The Role
Flare Electrical & Solar Contractors Ltd is looking for an experienced Qualified Supervisor (QS) to take responsibility for electrical compliance, certification and quality standards across our electrical operations on Lighting & Solar PV installations
This is a key position within the business and we are specifically looking for someone who has actively worked as a Qualified Supervisor within the last couple of years and is confident taking responsibility for the technical and compliance standards of an established electrical contractor.
The role combines the responsibilities of Qualified Supervisor with hands-on quality supervision. You will oversee electrical compliance, review certification, carry out site inspections, support our electricians with technical issues and ensure installations are completed to the standards required by Flare, BS 7671 and our NICEIC registration. You'll also play a role in assisting the estimating team where needed for light design queries.
You'll work closely with our Operations Director, Project Managers and electrical teams and will have the authority to challenge poor workmanship, require corrective action and drive improvements across the company.
Key Responsibilities
- Act as the company's Qualified Supervisor (QS) NICEIC.
- Take responsibility for maintaining the electrical standards required under our NICEIC registration
- Oversee electrical compliance across company projects
- Assist & Guide on site projects
- Review, check and approve electrical certification
- Ensure testing and inspection procedures are being completed correctly
- Carry out regular site quality and compliance inspections
- Inspect ongoing and completed electrical installations
- Ensure installations comply with BS 7671 and current industry requirements
- Identify defects, non-conformances and poor workmanship
- Ensure corrective and remedial actions are completed
- Carry out technical spot checks on electricians and installation teams
- Support electricians with technical, testing and compliance queries
- Prepare for and manage NICEIC assessments
- Maintain appropriate technical and compliance records
- Monitor the standard of first fix, second fix, testing and commissioning
- Assist with complex testing, fault finding and technical issues where required
- Help develop and improve company electrical procedures and quality-control systems
- Provide technical guidance and coaching to electricians and electrical improvers
- Identify recurring quality issues and implement improvements to prevent them happening again
- Work with Project Managers to ensure electrical works are being delivered correctly
- Maintain consistently high standards of electrical workmanship across the business
Essential Requirements
To be considered for this position, you must:
- Have recent experience working as a Qualified Supervisor (QS), ideally within the last 2 years
- Be comfortable taking responsibility as Flare's Qualified Supervisor
- Be a fully qualified and experienced electrician
- Have excellent current knowledge of BS 7671
- Have strong knowledge of NICEIC requirements and assessment procedures
- Have excellent testing and inspection knowledge
- Be confident reviewing and approving electrical certification
- Have experience supervising and assessing other electricians' work
- Have strong fault-finding and technical knowledge
- Have excellent attention to detail
- Be confident challenging non-compliant or substandard workmanship
- Be able to communicate technical requirements clearly to electricians and management
- Be organised and capable of maintaining accurate compliance records
- Hold a full UK driving licence
- Ideally also have Bpec Solar
Qualifications
Applicants should hold the appropriate qualifications and experience required to fulfil the NICEIC Qualified Supervisor role, including:
- NVQ Level 3 Electrical Installation or recognised equivalent
- 18th Edition Wiring Regulations
- Inspection & Testing qualification – City & Guilds 2391 or equivalent
- AM2 or recognised equivalent where applicable
- ECS/JIB Gold Card or equivalent evidence of competency
Solar PV, battery storage and EV qualifications would be advantageous but are not essential.
The Person We're Looking For
We're looking for someone who takes ownership of electrical standards.
You should be the type of electrician who immediately notices when something isn't right, understands why it isn't right and knows exactly what needs to be done to correct it.
You'll need the confidence to make technical decisions, challenge poor workmanship and hold our electrical teams to a consistently high standard.
At the same time, we're looking for someone who can work constructively with engineers. The objective isn't simply to find faults – it's to improve the standard of work across the company and help our electricians become better at what they do.
This is an important role within Flare and you'll have genuine authority over electrical compliance and quality standards.
