At New Chapters, we are a family-run service that offers vulnerable adults the opportunity to live independently in a supported environment.
We have the following vacancies in our services in the Lockleaze and Kingswood areas of Bristol:
- One female full-time support worker, in Kingswood, working on a 2:1 basis with one service user – drivers preferred: £13.25 per hour
- One female full-time senior support worker, in Kingswood, working on a 2:1 basis with one service user – driver essential: £14 per hour
- One full-time senior support worker in our Lockleaze area, working as part of a team supporting a number of service users who are seeking more independence: £13.75 per hour
Previous experience supporting adults with autism, learning disabilities, epilepsy and behaviours that may challenge in a supported living setting is essential. About the roles
Our support workers:
- Encourage the people we support to participate in their chosen activity or follow their interests.
- Co-ordinate scheduled activities for the people we support, using personalised rotas, liaising with others and ensuring facilitated activities and appointments are attended.
- Assist with personal care, including bathing, dressing, toileting, and grooming, while respecting dignity and privacy, and/or support or prompt service users to undertake their personal care (as appropriate).
- Implement behaviour management strategies when necessary.
- Maintain a clean and safe environment.
- Update and maintain accurate records and take the lead and developing care plans.
Responsibilities for senior support workers include the above, plus:
- Educating, informing, training and mentoring new/existing team members, at the request of the management team.
- Supervising the effective running of the service when the management team are elsewhere.
- Supporting with auditing processes.
These are offered on a 40-hour-a-week contract. Shifts are typically 12 or 14 hours, with the opportunity to undertake regular sleep-ins.
Role requirements – we are seeking someone who has:
- Experience as a support worker in a supported living setting, as well as a strong desire to work with people who have mental health concerns, learning disabilities and/or display challenging behaviour.
- The ability to remain calm, empathetic and level-headed in all situations, particularly if faced with challenging behaviour.
- Excellent communication and listening skills, as you will be supporting people who use various methods of communication.
- Good basic comprehension of the English language, literacy, numerical and IT skills.
- Ongoing commitment to your own personal development and training.
Senior support workers must have experience as a senior support worker or has extensive experience of mentoring others.
Unfortunately, we cannot sponsor visas for these roles, so we can only progress your application if you have the authority to work in the UK without visa sponsorship.
