Post: Driver at the Mauritius High Commission, London
About the Position:
The Driver is responsible for delivering a high standard of driving and safely transport the Head of Mission, High Commission Staff and Official visitors to scheduled appointments, events and airports/train stations according to program schedules.
Office Hours:
Monday to Friday – 9:00 am to 5:00 pm (40 hours per week).
The position may require work outside of standard hours, including occasional weekend duties and overnight travel. Overtime payable after 40 hours of work weekly.
Qualifications:
(i) Secondary Level Education;
(ii) possess a valid UK driving licence with a clean driving record;
(iii) have a basic knowledge of mechanics and simple vehicle maintenance; and
(iv) meet the legal minimum eyesight standards for driving
Duties:
(i) To drive any vehicle of the Mauritius High Commission for the conveyance of the Head of Mission, High Commission Staff and other VIPs, materials and equipment in connection with the activities of the High Commission;
(ii) To carry out simple checks/maintenance tasks including
(a) checking of radiator or overflow tank for water level and filling up with water, if necessary;
(b) checking of engine oil level and topping up, if necessary, and reporting any unusual oil consumption;
(c) checking of fluid levels of brake master cylinder and clutch master cylinder and topping up, if necessary;
(d) checking of wheel nuts for wheel tightness and checking of all wheels including spare wheel for the tyre pressure and uneven/abnormal wear;
(e) checking of battery electrolyte level and topping up, as and when necessary;
(f) checking of all lights, horn, wipers, brake and clutch to ensure that they are in good working conditions;
(g) monitoring mileage run/period vehicle is used;
(h) washing and cleaning the vehicle’s body and interiors; and
(i) ensuring that the interior of the vehicle is kept clean at all times and free of dust.
(iii) To report any defect observed to the relevant member of staff and take vehicle for repair/servicing to workshop as instructed by the latter.
(iv) To help, whenever required, the mechanic when the vehicle under his charge breaks down on the road or has to be towed or repaired on the spot.
(v) Ensure that the record on the speedometer is updated every morning and evening in the official Log Book of each car.
(vi) To keep a log book and record issue of fuel, all movements, tyres and battery changes.
(vii) To perform messengerial duties such as running errands, assisting with delivery and pick up of invitations, letters, goods and packages as directed.
(viii) To perform such other duties directly related to the main duties listed above or related to the delivery of the output and results expected from the Driver in the role ascribed to him.

(i) The candidate should
(a) have legal authority to live and work in the UK.
(b) be fluent in written and spoken English.
(ii) The position will be subject to a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check.
