Deacon’s House Cafe is looking for a reliable and hardworking Kitchen Porter to join our team.
This is a daytime position – you will finish by 5:00pm. There are no late-night shifts.
This makes the role particularly suitable for someone looking for regular daytime working hours and a better work-life balance.
About the Role
The main responsibility of this position is washing dishes and keeping the kitchen clean and organised.
You will primarily work with our Hobart commercial dishwasher, keeping up with the flow of plates, cups, glasses, cutlery, pots and kitchen equipment throughout the day.
You will be an important part of the kitchen team, helping ensure that the kitchen runs smoothly during busy service.
Your Main Responsibilities
- Operate the Hobart commercial dishwasher efficiently and safely.
- Load and unload the dishwasher throughout service.
- Wash plates, cups, glasses, cutlery, pots, pans and kitchen equipment.
- Keep the dishwashing area clean and organised.
- Hand-wash items that cannot go through the dishwasher.
- Put clean crockery and equipment back in the correct place.
- Clean the dishwasher and surrounding areas.
- Keep kitchen floors and surfaces clean.
- Empty bins and manage kitchen waste.
- Assist with general kitchen cleaning and basic tasks when required.
- Follow all food hygiene, health & safety and cleaning procedures.
The Hours
Daytime hours only.
- No late nights
- Finish by 5:00pm
- Regular daytime shifts
- Full-time and part-time hours available
- Weekend availability will be required as part of the role

Previous Kitchen Porter experience is welcome but not essential – full training will be provided.
