Job Description
We have a great opportunity for someone interested in a progressing career in pharmacy. The successful candidate will earn while they learn and after successfully completing the course, they will be a registered pharmacy technician with General pharmaceutical council (GPhC).
What is a Pharmacy Technician?
Pharmacy Technicians are professional, skilled and essential members of the pharmacy team. Pharmacy technicians work in many different work environments, including community pharmacies, GP practices and hospital pharmacy departments.
About the role
This is a 24-months fixed-term contract (which may lead to a permanent role after successful completion of the 2 year training) for those who are looking for a promising career in community pharmacy, GP Practice or Hospital pharmacy departments. During this training, you will learn to put into practice the knowledge, skills and behaviours required to become a Pharmacy Technician.
Your main duties and responsibilities will include but will not be limited to:
1.To participate (in accordance with SOPs and under the supervision of the pharmacist in charge/ Responsible Pharmacist) in all dispensing activities, ensuring that the correct medicines are dispensed and that they are appropriate for the patient.
2.This will include dispensing and labelling medication for individual patient supply and stock items from a variety of prescription types and requisitions and making the necessary records and endorsements.
3.To follow SOPs to ensure that all issues are dispensed and entered correctly using the pharmacy computer system so that the following are accurate: patient records, records of issues, stock control, the charges made to relevant cost centres and pharmacy workload statistics.
4.To perform routine self-accuracy checks to ensure safe dispensing
5.Receive prescriptions from customers, use questioning according to protocols to determine and accurately document allergies, other medications, and exemption status.
6.Issue dispensed and checked prescriptions to outpatients/customers, providing routine advice on medication use, identifying, and referring them to the pharmacist in charge/ Responsible Pharmacist when appropriate/ further advice is required.
7.Participate in the sale of Over the Counter (OTC), and miscellaneous items to staff and customers.
8.Use established set criteria (2WHAM questions) to identify patients who require Pharmacist referral when selling OTC.
9.Assist in housekeeping duties in the dispensary, maintaining clean and tidy dispensing facilities and safe systems of work.
10.Ensure stock is stored safely, securely according to required storage conditions. Provide advice to healthcare professionals on storage, expiry dates, stock rotation and other related matters within the guidance of SOPs to ensure a cost-effective service which minimises wastage.
11.Participate in maintaining good stock rotation
12.Assist in identifying and removing of stock not fit for purpose e.g. expired stock
13.Ensure all medication incidents are reported in accordance with the policies.
14.Communicate verbally or in writing as appropriate, with patients, relatives, carers, pharmacy staff and other healthcare professionals to provide and receive routine information.

· You will get one day a week (During your work week) to attend your online training program.
You will need to be committed to learning and completing coursework to deadlines.

Shift patterns will be discussed and formulated according to business needs and will be discussed with the candidates at interview stage.
