Working Hours: 37 hours per week, 52 weeks per year
Salary: 31,795 FTE per annum, plus £5,000 Market Supplement
Annual Leave: 31 days per annum (excluding bank holidays and up to 3 additional discretionary days over the Christmas/New Year period)
We’re looking for an experienced electrical professional to join us as a Skills Coach in Electrical, supporting apprentices as they build the practical skills, knowledge and confidence they need for a successful career in the industry.
This is a great opportunity to use your industry experience in a different way, working closely with apprentices and employers to support progress, recognise achievement and help learners get the very best from their apprenticeship.
As our Skills Coach in Electrical, you’ll play a key role in supporting apprentices throughout their programme, providing coaching, mentoring, reviews and guidance across employer premises, Hull College and remotely. You’ll help learners make strong progress, develop their confidence and build the practical skills, knowledge and behaviours they need for a successful career in the electrical industry.
The role focuses on delivering apprenticeship standards and supporting learners to achieve the best possible outcome, including distinction-level achievement wherever possible.

Responsibilities of our Skills Coach in Electrical:
- Providing appropriate support, information and guidance to a caseload of apprentices
- Delivering coaching, mentoring, teaching, learning and assessment on apprenticeship programmes to meet the needs of our employers and apprentices to the standards set by awarding bodies and end point assessment organisations
- Regularly reviewing and monitoring apprentices progress on their apprenticeship programme through the use of our online e-portfolio system, ensuring completion and achievement of all elements to ensure apprentices successfully pass-through gateway and end point assessment is taken and passed timely
- Ensuring that relationships with our employers are excellently maintained and they uphold their requirements as an apprenticeship employer
- Individualising programmes to meet the diverse needs of employers to ensure apprentices develop new skills, knowledge and behaviours relevant to their industries
- Embedding maths and English into everyday delivery to ensure all apprentices develop the necessary level of maths and English to be successful in their field
- Participating as a full member of the delivery team and contributing to the development, promotion, high-quality delivery of programmes including involvement in standardisation and quality improvement meetings
- Working with the employer engagement team to identify potential new apprentices and employers
What we’re looking for in our Skills Coach in Electrical:
- Relevant Level 3 qualification in Electrical or equivalent industry experience
- Maths & English at Level 2 or willingness to achieve this within 6 months
- Assessor qualification, or willingness to work towards one
- Strong recent experience within the electrical industry
- Experience of supporting, assessing or developing others
- Good communication and IT skills
- Ability to work independently, manage deadlines and meet targets
- Full driving licence and ability to travel to support learning and assessment
