Role Overview
As a Workshop Controller at Saxtons, you will be responsible for coordinating the day-to-day running of the workshop, ensuring vehicles are processed efficiently, work is allocated appropriately, and customers receive a high level of service throughout the repair and servicing process.
Working closely with the Aftersales Manager, Technicians, Vehicle Admin and other departments, you will manage the flow of vehicles through the workshop, monitor progress against agreed timescales, and ensure jobs are completed to the required quality standards.
You will act as a key point of contact between the workshop and sales, providing regular updates, managing expectations and ensuring any issues or delays are communicated promptly. The role requires excellent organisation, communication and time-management skills, alongside a strong understanding of vehicle servicing and repair processes.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Coordinate the daily workflow of the workshop, ensuring jobs are planned and allocated effectively.

- Allocate work to technicians based on their skills, experience and current workload.
- Monitor the progress of vehicles throughout the repair and servicing process and ensure work is completed within agreed timescales.
- Carry out regular checks on job progress and identify any potential delays or issues.
- Liaise with the Aftersales Manager regarding workshop capacity, workload and any operational concerns.
- Act as a key point of contact between sales, technicians and the Aftersales team.
- Provide customers with clear and professional updates regarding the progress of their vehicle.
- Communicate any additional work or unexpected repairs to the relevant team members and ensure appropriate customer authorisation is obtained where required.
- Ensure all job cards and workshop documentation are accurately completed and maintained.
- Monitor the quality of completed work and ensure vehicles meet the required standards before being released.
- Liaise with Parts, to ensure required parts and resources are available.
- Assist with prioritising urgent or time-sensitive repairs where appropriate.
- Support the Aftersales Manager in maintaining an efficient, productive and customer-focused workshop.
- Ensure workshop processes are followed consistently, and any issues are escalated appropriately.
- Assist with monitoring technician productivity and job completion times.
- Maintain a clean, organised and professional working environment.
- Ensure all relevant health and safety, manufacturer and company procedures are followed.
- Any other reasonable duties assigned by management.
Person Specification
· 1-year minimum experience in a Workshop Controller, Service Advisor, Senior Technician or similar automotive role.
- Strong understanding of vehicle servicing, diagnostics and repair processes.
- Excellent organisational and time-management skills.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to deal confidently and professionally with customers and colleagues.
- Ability to prioritise and manage multiple vehicles and jobs simultaneously.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to high-quality standards.
- Ability to work effectively under pressure in a busy workshop environment.
- Good IT and administration skills, including the ability to accurately maintain job records and documentation.
- A proactive approach to identifying and resolving problems.
- Full UK driving licence.
