Control Room Operative – Kensington Town Hall
We are looking for a professional, alert and reliable Control Room Operative to join the security team at Kensington Town Hall.
The successful candidate will monitor CCTV systems, manage access control cards, maintain accurate security records and support the response to incidents and emergencies. You will also monitor security communications and assist the Site Security Manager and Control Room Supervisor with daily administrative duties.
This is a trusted position involving confidential information. You must follow all CCTV, data protection, access control and site security procedures at all times.
Main Duties
- Monitor CCTV cameras and report any suspicious activity, safety concerns or security incidents.
- Complete regular CCTV system checks and record and report any faults.
- Carry out scheduled CCTV camera sweeps across the site.
- Respond promptly to incidents and coordinate with security officers, management and emergency services when required.
- Ensure the Security Control Room remains secure and only authorised people are allowed access.
- Make sure all authorised visitors to the Control Room sign in and out.
- Follow all CCTV, confidentiality, GDPR and data protection procedures.
- Only review, download or release CCTV footage when the correct authorisation has been received.
- Check identification and authorisation before allowing anyone to access CCTV information or footage.
- Create, update and manage RBKC staff access cards, including new, amended, replacement and lost cards.
- Monitor the security email inbox and respond to or escalate requests as required.
- Maintain accurate records, including the Daily Occurrence Book, incident reports, visitor records, access records and CCTV records.
- Record incidents clearly and factually, without personal opinions or assumptions.
- Support the correct issue and return of keys and ensure key records are completed accurately.
- Complete a full handover at the beginning and end of each shift.
- Assist the Site Security Manager and Control Room Supervisor with administrative tasks.
- Provide reception cover when required.
- Report equipment faults, security concerns and system failures immediately.
- Follow all Kensington Town Hall Assignment Instructions, site procedures and management instructions.
- Maintain a professional, polite and helpful approach when dealing with RBKC staff, contractors, visitors and members of the public.
Essential Requirements
- A valid SIA Public Space Surveillance (CCTV) licence.
- Previous experience working in a security control room or CCTV monitoring role.
- Good CCTV monitoring and observation skills.
- Strong computer and general IT skills.
- Ability to manage emails, electronic records and access control systems.
- Good written English and the ability to produce clear and accurate reports.
- Good verbal communication skills.
- Ability to remain calm and make sensible decisions during incidents and emergencies.
- A strong understanding of confidentiality, GDPR and data protection responsibilities.
- Ability to follow instructions and work within strict security procedures.
- Reliable, punctual and able to complete clear shift handovers.
- Professional appearance and customer service skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a security team.
Desirable Requirements
- Previous experience managing staff access cards or electronic access control systems.
- Previous experience with key-control procedures.
- Experience working in a council, public-sector or busy public building.
- First aid training or a valid first aid certificate.
- Experience supporting incident and emergency communications.
Working Hours
The current Control Room Operative shift at Kensington Town Hall is:
07:00 to 19:00
Applicants must be able to work the required rota, which may include weekends and bank holidays depending on operational needs.
