Salary point: 20 (£24,544 per annum, pro rata of £25,947 FTE)
Permanent Contract - 35 hours per week

The Society of St James (SSJ) has been working in Hampshire for over 50 years, delivering high impact, person-centred, accommodation services to adults and young people experiencing homelessness, problematic substance use and mental health problems. The Role

The Society of St James (SSJ) is looking for a proactive Homeless Support Worker to join the team at Patrick House. This is more than a job; it’s a chance to guide individuals with complex needs toward recovery and independence using a trauma-informed, strength-based approach.
You'll be working on the front lines to help people with complex needs; including homelessness, substance misuse, mental health and learning disabilities build essential life skills and connect with vital support. Your work will be crucial in helping service users achieve:
- Improved daily living skills, health outcomes, and self-esteem.
- Better engagement with treatment services and meaningful activities.
You will work 3 days on/3 days off as part of a team to ensure the smooth running of the hostel.
What We're Looking For:
You are a positive, flexible, and resilient individual who thrives in challenging but profoundly rewarding environments. You possess great communication skills and a non-negotiable belief that safe housing is a fundamental human right.
You'll need good organisational and IT skills and the ability to confidently work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
While full training will be provided, this role is ideally suited for someone with experience of or a strong interest in:
- Supporting people affected by homelessness.
- De-escalating and managing challenging behaviour.
- The complex effects of alcohol and substance use on mental health.
- Safeguarding vulnerable adults and promoting equality and diversity.
