About the Role
Jiva Healthcare is looking for an experienced and reliable Painter & Decorator to help us maintain high standards across our care services.
The appearance and condition of our homes play an important part in creating a safe, comfortable and welcoming environment for the people we support. We are therefore looking for someone who takes pride in their work, has a good eye for detail and can complete decorating works to a consistently high standard.
Working across our services, you will undertake planned and reactive painting and decorating, helping to ensure bedrooms, communal areas, offices and other parts of our properties remain well presented and properly maintained.
As you will be working within active care environments, you will also need to work respectfully around residents and staff, maintain safe working areas and minimise disruption while work is being carried out.
Your Responsibilities
Your duties will include:
- Carrying out internal and external painting and decorating across Jiva Healthcare services
- Preparing surfaces appropriately, including filling, sanding, repairing and making good before decoration
- Applying paint, varnish and other appropriate finishes using brushes, rollers and other suitable equipment
- Painting walls, ceilings, doors, woodwork and other surfaces as required
- Completing touch-ups, repairs and redecoration to maintain the appearance of our homes
- Ensuring all work is completed neatly, safely and to a high standard
- Protecting furniture, flooring and surrounding areas while decorating work is undertaken
- Keeping work areas clean, tidy and safe throughout each job
- Ensuring paints, tools and equipment are stored securely, particularly within resident areas
- Identifying and reporting any additional maintenance or repair issues identified while carrying out work
- Helping to identify materials required for planned works and ensuring resources are used appropriately
- Working with Home Managers and the wider management team to plan and prioritise decorating requirements
- Following Jiva Healthcare’s health and safety procedures, risk assessments and infection prevention and control requirements
- Working sensitively and professionally within people’s homes and respecting residents’ privacy, dignity and individual needs at all times
What We’re Looking For
To be successful in this role, you should have:
- Previous professional experience in painting and decorating
- Good knowledge of surface preparation and different painting and finishing techniques
- The ability to produce a consistently high standard of finish
- Good practical and problem-solving skills
- The ability to organise and manage your own workload
- A reliable, flexible and professional approach
- Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively with managers, staff and contractors
- An understanding of the importance of health and safety when working within occupied premises
- A respectful and considerate approach when working around vulnerable adults
- A full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle, as travel between Jiva Healthcare services will be required (Seaford & Eastbourne).
Experience of working within care homes, healthcare, supported living or similar environments would be an advantage, but is not essential.
