Job Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Accountant or Assistant Accountant to join our finance team. The ideal candidate will support the accounting department in various financial tasks, ensuring accuracy and compliance with financial regulations.
Location: Hornigold & Co – Chartered Accountants – Chepstow
Employment Type: Permanent & Full-Time - Monday to Friday, 9:00am – 4:30pm
Salary: Competitive, based on experience

The ideal candidate should have experience in bookkeeping, a good working knowledge of accounts production with adequate practice experience.
Duties
- Preparation of Sole Trader, Partnership and Limited Company Accounts and associated tax returns.
- Preparation of quarterly VAT returns using Xero, Freeagent and QuickBooks)
- Preparation of Making Tax Digital for Income Tax Self Assessment (MTD ITSA) submissions
- Assisting clients with their cloud software (Xero, Freeagent, Sage, QuickBooks)
- Assisting clients with registering for various HMRC taxes.
- Preparation of Self-Assessment and Corporation Tax Returns
- Support month-end and year-end closing processes, including reconciliations
- Collaborate with team members to ensure compliance with financial regulations and standards.
- Company secretarial duties
- Adhoc duties as required
Experience
- Proven experience in a similar accounting role or relevant financial services environment is essential
- Proficient in all aspects of Microsoft Office, especially Word, Excel and Outlook
- Experience in Xero, FreeAgent and QuickBooks would be an advantage although training will be provided to the right candidate
- Strong understanding of financial accounting principles and practices.
- Excellent organisational skills with meticulous attention to detail.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to deal with sensitive information with discretion and to maintain confidentiality.
- Ability to prioritise and co-ordinate tasks efficiently ensuring all deadlines are met
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret financial data.
